NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Anaheim Ducks

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Anaheim Ducks The Buffalo Sabres are playing better hockey of late, but they are still one of the worst teams in hockey. They have some players, at last, who are at least a little bit recognizable. The team is putting in solid efforts on a nightly basis and starting to develop a scrappiness necessary to win. While I personally think Robin Lehner’s scowling staredown last week during his shutout was a little silly, I can also see it as a rallying cry for a young team looking for leadership and intensity.

The Anaheim Ducks started  ...

NHL Picks: Arizona Coyotes at Washington Capitals

NHL Picks: Arizona Coyotes at Washington Capitals It feels like we’re picking on the same teams these days, with three posts attacking the LA Kings and now a second post where we pick on the Arizona Coyotes, but we’ve been winning so why mess with it? The Arizona Coyotes take on the best team in hockey, on the road, in a game with a very sharp line from Vegas and a very strong signal from Z-Code. We tread with caution in this post, but in a day with a limited slate of game, this is my strongest lean.

I want to  ...

NHL Picks: St. Louis Blues at Arizona Coyotes

NHL Picks: St. Louis Blues at Arizona Coyotes I do not trust the Arizona Coyotes. I’ve never liked this organization and I think hockey in the desert has been a tremendous mistake. What’s more, they have never really put together a high caliber roster. Now they have some young pieces in place this year, but without consistent defense and goaltending I don’t think the Coyotes have a shot at remaining competitive down the stretch.

The St. Louis Blues are the opposite of the Coyotes. They have consistency and a strong system. The Blues don’t necessarily have a potent offense, but they  ...

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils After getting the score exactly right in both of our last two posts while betting against LA, it almost feels weird not making a post that rips on the LA Kings, their putrid offense, and their obnoxious organization. So, instead, I’m going to open this post by picking on the Kings again for absolutely no reason while introducing our New Jersey Devils vs New York Islanders game pick.

I expect the New York Islanders to be a little bit tired. They’re a dynamic team with explosive scoring at times and since they  ...

NHL Picks: LA Kings at St. Louis Blues

NHL Picks: LA Kings at St. Louis Blues  I still hate the LA Kings. I still have all the jabs I used when betting against them earlier this week. I still think they’re a bunch of terrible fans and a terrible organization. I have very much enjoyed their struggles on this grueling road trip. I will try to suck out a little more money from this road trip as the LA Kings offense continues to struggle and they take on one of the best defenses in hockey, with one of the hottest goalies right now, when they visit the St.  ...

NHL Picks: LA Kings at Washington Capitals

NHL Picks: LA Kings at Washington Capitals I do not like the LA Kings. I don’t really try to hide my hatred, either. I am a fan of the New Jersey Devils and the officiating in that Stanley Cup was among the worst I’ve ever seen. To lose on a retaliation boarding following a missed call against Gionta is something I will never let go of. Moreover, the fans of the LA Kings, and even their organization through social media and other venues, proved themselves to be a big bag of dicks.

As such, I was pretty happy when my Devils  ...

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes The Eastern Conference Wild Card race is getting pretty intense. Following a win by my New Jersey Devils, there is a tie for the final Wild Card spot at 63 points, and the Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens would all be out at 58 points. Just a point ahead of the final Wild Card spot, the New York Islanders are third in the Metropolitan at 64 points. This NHL Playoffs race is going to be intense.

A win here for the Carolina Hurricanes would bring them closer to the New  ...

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Minnesota Wild

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Minnesota Wild This game is quite the Las Vegas trap. The line opened at -125 and has fallen to -120 despite public money pouring in on the road team, the Washington Capitals. That’s always a dangerous sign on a popular and “obvious” game. What’s more, the Minnesota Wild are way too good to be losing this often. The Wild are due, and really, the Caps are kind of due for a loss.

The schedule has not been kind to the surging Washington Capitals, which makes their play of late all the more impressive. They are  ...

NHL Picks Contest: Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings ($100 Prize)

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Boston Bruins at Detroit Red Wings

Sunday, February 14th With the NFL season over following the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl victory (that we nailed, by the way), NHL hockey takes over as my favorite thing to watch on Sundays. The Boston Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit in a matinee matchup between two teams hoping to hold on to strong first halves and make the playoffs. The Red Wings have a long playoffs streak to cling to, but have seen their share of ups and downs this year. The Bruins, on the  ...

NHL Picks: Devils Oilers – Martin Brodeur Night

NHL Picks: Martin Brodeur Night, New Jersey Devils vs Edmonton Oilers The New Jersey Devils will be honoring the greatest goaltender of all time when they celebrate the career of Martin Brodeur. Sure, things ended a little unceremoniously for the goaltender with the most wins in NHL history, but I am sure the New Jersey Devils will do this one right. The game against the Edmonton Oilers, however, is a little bit trickier.

If not for the Martin Brodeur celebrations, this would be a pretty typical let down game. The New Jersey Devils are on a back to back following  ...
