NHL Picks: New York Islanders at New Jersey Devils

After getting the score exactly right in both of our last two posts while betting against LA, it almost feels weird not making a post that rips on the LA Kings, their putrid offense, and their obnoxious organization. So, instead, I’m going to open this post by picking on the Kings again for absolutely no reason while introducing our New Jersey Devils vs New York Islanders game pick.

I expect the New York Islanders to be a little bit tired. They’re a dynamic team with explosive scoring at times and since they have anchored their defense with big names they have had a playoff-caliber balance. That said, they lack some forward depth and I think the New Jersey Devils defense and goaltending should shut down a tired top line at home. The right to last change should keep the Islanders busy all night.

I also really like the way the New Jersey Devils are playing right now. They are grinding out games like the glory days of the 14-shot Martin Brodeur shutout. They certainly could use some scoring, but I think with an advantage in energy and on home ice, they should find a way to win this rivalry game.

More importantly, I expect the New Jersey Devils to struggle to score even if they completely control this game. As such, I think their defense will keep the Islanders from scoring many goals and in a close game, the under 5 line looks good to me.

I’m on the New Jersey Devils in a small bet and the under. Z-Code agrees, seeing three stars of value in this coin flip rivalry game. Z-Code also thinks there is a 93% chance the Devils cover the +1.5 puck line.
