NHL Picks: Devils Oilers – Martin Brodeur Night

NHL Picks: Martin Brodeur Night, New Jersey Devils vs Edmonton Oilers

The New Jersey Devils will be honoring the greatest goaltender of all time when they celebrate the career of Martin Brodeur. Sure, things ended a little unceremoniously for the goaltender with the most wins in NHL history, but I am sure the New Jersey Devils will do this one right. The game against the Edmonton Oilers, however, is a little bit trickier.

If not for the Martin Brodeur celebrations, this would be a pretty typical let down game. The New Jersey Devils are on a back to back following a rough night against their biggest divisional rival in a 2-1 loss. It is going to be really difficult for the Devils to get up for this one against the lowly Edmonton Oilers and there is a real risk New Jersey continues its losing streak tonight if they cannot get their legs underneath them.

Still, I think that the Devils honoring Martin Brodeur will get the crowd going and get the New Jersey Devils going. They are certainly the better team in this matchup and they are home. The Devils have the vastly superior goaltender and if they can find enough offense they should be able to control this game from the opening puck drop.

As for fatigue, the Edmonton Oilers are on an east coast trip and playing their third game in four nights. They should be feeling the effects as well.

Z-Code agrees, giving the New Jersey Devils a 57% chance to win this game and predicting a 3-1 victory with 58% confidence. In a coin flip line, I’ll take the Devils at home to beat the Edmonton Oilers on Marty Brodeur night.
