NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Anaheim Ducks

The Buffalo Sabres are playing better hockey of late, but they are still one of the worst teams in hockey. They have some players, at last, who are at least a little bit recognizable. The team is putting in solid efforts on a nightly basis and starting to develop a scrappiness necessary to win. While I personally think Robin Lehner’s scowling staredown last week during his shutout was a little silly, I can also see it as a rallying cry for a young team looking for leadership and intensity.

The Anaheim Ducks started out slow, but they are starting to play like the team we thought they should be all year. They have had solid goaltending all year, but now they have the offense we all knew would emerge eventually. Anaheim has won a bunch of games in a row and are finally surging up the standings. It’s been a great second half for the Ducks.

So now, two teams that started out slow are playing much better hockey. The difference? Well, for me it’s simply the quality of these two rosters. The Anaheim Ducks are the much better team and I expect talent to prevail on home ice here.

Z-Code agrees, giving a 72% chance for victory to the Anaheim Ducks and four stars of value. Before a shift towards a sharper line, this game had five stars of value. As a result, all parameters are in line to support an Anaheim Ducks victory.
