NHL 2016 Season Predictions: Eastern Conference

NHL 2016 Season Predictions: Eastern Conference Carolina Hurricanes Despite finishing 6th in the division in 2015, this team is possibly the worst in the NHL. Aside from Jordan Stall and Jeff Skinner, they have no impact players and their defense lacks experience. Look for them at the bottom of the standings all year. Buffalo Sabres The Sabres are progressing but doing so slowly. They are not a playoff contender this year. While they have  a solid mix of fresh young talent and seasoned veterans, the team will continue to grow. However, temper your expectations. Wait a year or two and  ...

NHL Picks: Today’s Top Hockey Sports Predictions, Wagers

NHL Picks: Today’s Top NHL Sports Predictions We’ve been slacking a little bit if you look only at our NHL Picks page. I had a bar application due, we had to put together our MLB Picks Podcast, and I was camping last week with limited internet. As a result, we have only given you a few picks this week. Tonight, I rectify some of that by posting the entire slate of games from my forum. We’ve been on quite a run, up more than $1,000 with $100 units.

Today, a bunch of games fit the system. I’ve laid out the  ...

NHL Picks: Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks

NHL Picks: Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks The Edmonton Oilers are an explosive young team with a lot of holes. The defense is porous, the goaltending is suspect, and the offense is inconsistent. That said, the young talent on the Oilers’ top two lines can compete with just about anyone. The Oilers are dangerous at times, but ultimately they fit the system when they play top NHL teams like the San Jose Sharks.

The San Jose Sharks are a great team at home. The Shark Tank is one of the most intimidating arenas in hockey. They have goaltending and  ...

NHL Picks: Arizona Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Picks: Arizona Coyotes at Pittsburgh Penguins It seems like we’ve been picking on the Arizona Coyotes of late, but with good reason. This mediocre team has lost five in a row, plummeting in the standings and falling eight points out of the wild card race. Their road trip continues as the visit a very strong Pittsburgh Penguins team, and there appears to be no end in sight. So, in keeping with picking on this nonsense franchise, I’ll take advantage of a sharp edge to the home team here.

I really don’t think there should be hockey in Arizona. In fact,  ...

NHL Picks: LA Kings at St. Louis Blues

NHL Picks: LA Kings at St. Louis Blues  I still hate the LA Kings. I still have all the jabs I used when betting against them earlier this week. I still think they’re a bunch of terrible fans and a terrible organization. I have very much enjoyed their struggles on this grueling road trip. I will try to suck out a little more money from this road trip as the LA Kings offense continues to struggle and they take on one of the best defenses in hockey, with one of the hottest goalies right now, when they visit the St.  ...

NHL Picks: Minnesota Wild at Anaheim Ducks

NHL Picks: Minnesota Wild at Anaheim Ducks The Minnesota Wild are a pretty good team. As I’ve said in countless NHL Picks Contest posts and game predictions, I am absolutely baffled by their sustained success at times. I also don’t understand how they can win so much and go into such a lengthy skid right now. The Minnesota Wild are a tough team to predict, because they have so much talent but lack superstar goaltending or defensive depth.

The Anaheim Ducks are probably the biggest disappointment in the NHL this season. Predictions for them to have one of the most successful  ...

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at Buffalo Sabres The New Jersey Devils struggle enough offensively as it is. With Adam Henrique and Travis Zajac out of the lineup, the New Jersey Devils were rather predictably shut out in their last contest. Still, Adam Henrique is skating and looks to return to the lineup tonight, and Cory Schneider is one of the best goalies in hockey. Even a modicum of offensive spark should be enough for New Jersey here.

The Buffalo Sabres aren’t as terrible as they were last year, but they haven’t been a viable threat in the East since  ...

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Columbus Blue Jackets

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Columbus Blue Jackets I actually really like the Columbus Blue Jackets. It makes me happy that they have a goaltender that makes the Flyers look silly with every successful season he puts together. That said, this year is not going well for the Jackets. A coaching change may have given them a temporary boost, but they are in the midst of another slide.

The New York Islanders, on the other hand, are playing some really great hockey at the moment. They’ve got some serious top-line talent and one of the hottest goalies in hockey  ...

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Detroit Red Wings

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Detroit Red Wings Don’t forget, today features a contest game between the Colorado Avalanche and New Jersey Devils! That game, obviously is not a system pick because I view it as something of a coin flip. The New Jersey Devils are hard to trust with their offense the way it is, and the Devils defense makes them a threat to beat anyone – especially the lowly Colorado Avalanche.

Here, I like the Detroit Red Wings at home. The Red Wings are a great team at home historically, and much of my analysis that led us  ...

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Florida Panthers

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Florida Panthers This is far from an easy game but it’s hard to deny the value in a pick ’em line between the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers. The Panthers are struggling right now while the New York Islanders are poised to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this year.

Roberto Luongo makes the Florida Panthers a viable threat. Their young scoring is somewhat dangerous, and they compete. Still, I don’t think theFlorida Panthers should be even money in this one and I see a lot of value on the New York Islanders.

A weak Panthers defensive corps is going to struggle with some of the best scoring in hockey. Speed and skill are the Islanders’ signature the past few season and I think they’ll skate circles around the Panthers and generate a lot of chances. Sure, the Florida Panthers can win this one with goaltending, but I  ...
