ATP 1000 Masters in Madrid – One of the fastest courts in the world. This is heaven for most of the top 10 players who prefer the clay surface: Nadal, Ferrer, Wawrinka and Federer. We will certainly see a lot of top class tennis. Whether Nadal can finally start playing on the level we all came to expect from him, that’s a good question which I cannot answer however I’m sure younger guys like Dimitrov and possibly Janowicz will cause few problems for the opponents and they should go far. I also expect Nishikori to get stuck in and try to reach the quarter-finals, he is more than capable of and the body allows him to play the tennis he was playing 2 years ago.
ATP 1000 Masters in Rome – Last year Rome was extremely profitable for us. The matches were very predictable and those who were expected to play well, delivered. We may expect some sort of revival for the home buy, Seppi to actually start playing some better tennis here. Saying that, he has no chances of winning. I think Wawrinka will be up for the challenge, I believe the conditions will favour him over his opponents.
ATP 250 in Dusseldorf and Nice – Smaller events, much worse opponents however there’s a possible return of Tipsarevic to the event in Dusseldorf. Overall I believe Vesely will win the final in Dusseldorf while in Nice we’ll most likely see Gulbis – Raonic/Isner final.
ATP 2000 ROLAND GARROS GRAND SLAM
Now the biggie, most profitable tournament of the year – French Grand Slam. All of the top players will battle for the win. Once again it’s not given that Nadal will go back to his form however he will certainly look to improve his form going into his favourite event of the year. Don’t expect much from the other top 10 players such as Djokovic or Berdych. They can’t be real competitors for the championship. It’s hard for me to say who’s going to win it, there’s a possibility of Federer reaching the final though. I would certainly like to see him raise the trophy for the 18th time in his career.
