We finished the first round with a near-perfect bracket, losing perfection in the final day. High confidence series predictions in the Rangers, Ducks, and Blackhawks all hit. Our lowest confidence series lost in seven games, but we made up for it with excellent strategy and small units down the stretch. We predicted the correct number of games for three series that we won, and overall we’re up a lot of money using my non-progression betting playoff series system. If you’re going to lose in this system, it might as well be in seven games to minimize loss. In fact, in the Sharks series, we won money by pulling back our wager size down the stretch as they went cold. Glorious first round, let’s keep it going.
When I filled out my bracket, this is the rivalry I was hoping for. Physical, brutal, hate-filled, fun. Two great hockey cities. Two historic teams. I think the Bruins are far better though, and expect the series to demonstrate that quite convincingly.
I have Boston winning the Stanley Cup this year. They’re deep, they’re physical, they’re anchored in strong goaltending, they’re experienced, they’re well coached, they have solid home ice advantage, and they have an easy path to the finals (relatively speaking, of course).
Montreal blasted a team that was missing their top goalie. I don’t think they’ll put up much of a fight. It’s a huge rivalry, I just think they’re overmatched. I see only limited value here, but I think Boston wins. The computer agrees, but only a weak signal due to the sharpness of the line.
