MLB Picks: Philadelphia Phillies at St. Louis Cardinals, ABC Progression The St. Louis Cardinals were dealt a tough blow when Adam Wainwright went down for the year, and I think it had something to do with their lackluster performance in Game One of this four-game series. With strong pitching advantages and the lowly Philadelphia Phillies coming to St. Louis, I see a huge advantage warranting a progression.

Like I said in the last edition of our playoffs picks contest, I loe the third game of a series. Will the favorite be on their heels? Will the home underdog fight to stay alive? As momentum shifts and matchups shape up, intensity rises as these games mean everything. The Anaheim Ducks cruised to victory of the Jets while the Calgary Flames simply outplayed the Canucks.  MLB Picks: St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers  Adam Wainwright is one of my favorites. He’s reliable and consistent, and he plays for a team that is also reliable and consistent. The St. Louis Cardinals rarely “fail to show up” and even on the road you can trust them in progressions with pitching edges. Once again, I’ve got an AB doubler that is carried by the strength of Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn coming right behind him.

NHL Playoffs Picks Contest ($100): Washington Capitals at New York Islanders

I like when our NHL picks contest spills over into the playoffs because Game Three with a favorite going on the road for the first time is the definition of a toss up. I think the Caps are the better team and I’m posting this before we know exactly what kind of desperation will turn this into a contest toss up. Will the Islanders be desperate and fighting for their lives? Will they surprise and take control of the series, forcing the Washington Capitals to fight to regain home ice? The Caps are -140 to win the series, -145 at home to open the series, and the first road game of the series is a perfect chance to test what the Islanders are made of.

The Minnesota Wild have been good to us lately. They’ve consistently defeated teams they should be beating, and we’ve made some money on their most recent run. You could feel the momentum building up and the playoff push beginning. It was a great time to back them, and they’ve come through. The Edmonton Oilers are a team the Minnesota Wild should beat. That said, -280 has very limited value for me in hockey.
