NHL Picks March 6: Vegas at Winnipeg featured game

As the month of March begins, the NHL regular season enters the home stretch. Playoff spots and positioning are still up in the air, so every game is important. Vegas versus Winnipeg headline the action for Friday, March 6.

Vegas Golden Knights versus Winnipeg Jets

Vegas comes in with the top record in the Pacific Division. They head to Winnipeg to face the Jets, currently fourth in the Central Division.  The Golden Knights have a +23 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot down” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the “over/under” line, so best to avoid betting on that in this one. The Team Volatility Oscillator indicates that Vegas has been performing more consistently according to their favorite/underdog status. The Jets took the last game between the teams by a 4-3 score on the road in overtime. It’s payback time for Vegas, who will come away with a road win in this contest.

St. Louis Blues versus New Jersey Devils

Among the hottest teams in the NHL, the Blues take their first-place record in the Central Division to New Jersey to face the last-place team in the Metropolitan Division. St. Louis is +30 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator versus +6 and “average up” for the Devils. Expect a low scoring game according to the Totals Predictor, so the “under” is a safe bet. Neither team has been incredibly stable, with the Blues at +9 and the Devils at +4 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. St. Louis won the last game between the teams on February 18 by a 3-0 score. Expect much of the same this time. St. Louis will win by a few goals.

Chicago Blackhawks versus Detroit Red Wings

Once two dominant forces in the NHL, these longtime rivals are among the worst in the league this season. Chicago is last in the Central Divisions and Detroit is at the bottom in the Atlantic Division. Chicago is playing better lately, however, “burning hot” and +14 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Detroit is 0 and “dead” status. Best to avoid the “over/under” in this one as teams are trending on opposite sides of the line. The Red Wings are very stable at +31 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Blackhawks won the last meeting by a 4-2 score at home. Detroit could be a home underdog and is more the reason to take Chicago in this one.

Toronto Maple Leafs versus Anaheim Ducks

At third in the Atlantic Division, the Maple Leafs have much to play for heading to the postseason, while the Ducks are seventh in the Pacific and looking towards the offseason. Toronto has a +24 to +1 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are relatively stable at +8 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. This could be a high scoring game and betting the “over” looks like a great option. Toronto won the last game between the teams by a 5-4 score in overtime. Much of the game is likely to occur this time. Go with another road team to win.

Colorado Avalanche versus Vancouver Canucks

The Avalanche head to Vancouver with the second-best record in the Central Division. Vancouver still has much to play for at fourth in the Pacific Division, however, they are not playing well lately at “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Colorado is “burning hot” and has a +29 to +10 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams are moderately stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator.  Betting the “over/under” is not a wise choice in this one with teams trending on opposite sides of the line. The Avalanche won by a 5-4 score on the road in the last meeting between the teams. I think Colorado takes this one, but in a lower-scoring game.
