Why I Blame the Players for the 2012 NHL Lockout Continuing

The NHL has now canceled games through November 1st.  After the recent round of proposals, the NHL lockout is now the fault of the players, not the owners.

I recognize the argument that players are taking a significant salary cut by reducing their share of revenues to 50%.  I understand that the work stoppage was enforced by the owners and the league.  I realize this likely could have been avoided, and that Gary Bettman has turned to a work stoppage each time the CBA has expired under his watch.  It was funny to me (in a sick and horrible way) that owners were complaining about the monster contracts they voluntarily handed out as the main inhibitor of profitability.

I was squarely on the side of the players before last week’s proposal from the NHL.  After the recent swap of CBA proposals, however, I’m on the side of the owners.

Many have told me I’ve been fooled by a publicity stunt  ...

Hot Trend Performance: 3 and 3.5 Star Home Winners in Burning Hot status

One of the commonly overlooked Zcode trends is 3 and 3.5 Star Home Winners in Burning Hot status

Lets talk about it to see it’s advantages over the traditional 4-5 Star Home Winner Trend

1. Games where the favorite is getting only 3 or 3.5 stars are commonly overlooked. They are less obvious (Rangers vs Capitals playing for 3.5 stars comparing to Detroit playing Columbus Blue Jacktes for 5 stars) which meas the odds are usually better.

2. If you limit the status to Burning Hot only the win rate of this trend is amazing. Just see the record: 38  ...

What’s happening with NHL in the month of February and how can I can take advantage of the “5 Bets 5 days” Contest?

Boston lost 6-0 yesterday to Buffalo, it’s pretty much it summarizes what’s happening with teams in February and why most results are usually unpredictable.

A) Top Teams like Boston put all their effort into amazing winning November and December runs. There is simply not much power left there. They are flat and tired. Watch any Boston game and you will see it outright.

B) Weak teams like Buffalo who underperformed 2 months ago now start  ...

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day…

Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.

This chinese saying suggests that the ability to work is of greater benefit than a one-off handout.

That’s the philosophy behind our idea to create a sports prediction platform Zcode instead of creating yet another sports pick service.

So what’s the difference between sports prediction platform and sports picks service?

The difference is significant. With Sports prediction platform you can do so many things – you can analyze teams, find hot trends, research performance,  ...

Ugly NHL in February

It’s obvious February hockey is giving a hard time to all sports investors around the world, even Zcode has got a tough week. Today we took a short interview with our friend Mark Donatiello, an expert NHL capper from the Faster Times who is picking winners for years.

We got a tough week. How are you doing in February Mark?

Tough start to February. I’ve been making small wagers and hitting all my big bets, but this is ridiculous I’m like 4-9, missed the first day of the month where I would have been 1-4, and I’m lucky to  ...

NHL Pick of the day by Ron for 3 February 2012

Fighting Streaks

Recap: Yikes! A 1-0 loss is hard to swallow and an unfortunate home loss for Colorado. Minnesota was finally able to protect a lead in the third, it took everything they had as they were heavily and continuously out shot. This means we’ll keep trucking, only two games short of .500 and due for another different kind of streak. Streaks were a big part of the strong times we had, so if possible I say we try and use them for our next game. Also, keep an eye out for another multi game and even several game night.  ...

Battle of the Losers

Recap: A road loss for Washington puts us even since our return from the break, and back to a game beneath .500 overall. Though we have been successful with road teams before, we are achieving more success on home teams. Historically the NHL has been a fairly even test on the road and at home. Lately home teams have the advantage. The Red Wings are pushing towards the record for consecutive home wins, set by the Bruins over seventy years ago. We’ll use this knowledge to push home teams unless a certain away line is  ...

NHL Free Pick of the day by Ron for February 1, 2012

Number Ten

Recap: Easy win yesterday as Pittsburgh deletes a 4-1 deficit in the third period. In case you missed, Pens tied it with six seconds left and Fleury stones Kessel in a shootout. It might be fair to say that Crosby’s absence was a helping factor in a valiant team effort with some heavily celebrated goals. Crosby did have a tendency to get in the team’s way.

That means we are now in positive profit and also back at a .500 record, going for a winning one. The theory that all teams would be at their best seems  ...

Free Pick of the day by Ron

The All Star break is over, and it was a pretty theatrical and annoying one at that. We are back in action tonight with one of the largest lineups of the season. Unfortunately no one will be wearing a cape.

The million dollar question in the air is how will teams be affected by the break?

Lucky for us we only choose one game to work with, so we only need to worry about this effect on a single game basis. The last fact we all encountered were the Red Wings crawling into a deep sleep just before the break.  ...

Teams Performance After the All Star Break?

Teams Performance After the All Star Break?

How does the performance chance when the playoff is in sight?

Here is what JonathanMa thinks: “Generally teams become more serious after the all star break. They know that the play offs are just around the corner. Play off contenders will play harder to secure their spots and get that top spot. Weaker teams will compete harder against each other for those bottom 2 play off spots.

I actually expect less surprises after the all star break. Good teams will defeat bad teams like they should. So I generally won’t be concerned very much besides for injuries.”

This is a good knowledge to have for sports investors. Having less surprises is what we need in a long run to be profitable!

Why is upset in NHL a good thing?

Every time we get an upset in NHL you might get mad – we lost the money on the obvious sure win where a big team did not show up at home. SO how is it a good thing?

What’s an upset? In NHL the upset happen pretty often. Oilers won over Sharks? Detroit could not beat Columbus and took it to shootout. Oilers again won over Chicago 4-3. You name it, you’ve seen them many times.

On the short sight it looks like a bad thing and makes you lose the bet which is true.

However on the  ...

NHL Pick of the day from Ron for 23 January 2012

Home and Home

Recap: Let’s go over some crucial points about our past couple of picks. We are now a game below .500, losing our past two days plays. On one of these days we had two game picks, so it comes out to three losing plays total which moved our record backwards to this point. Now we’re going to move forward and turn it around. Though it’s smart not to look back, we aren’t simply going to move forward in denial like most would. Instead we’re going to make room for some interesting discussion here, hope you enjoy it!

Time for an Underdog

Recap: Both games last night ended up in a shootout. Winnipeg loses at home and Detroit wins but does not cover by two goals. That means we’re all squared up again. Saturday is the day to make a big stride forward or get knocked back. Though we couldn’t capitalize and were punished for taking the extra game risk, we’re fortunate enough to still be even in the books. We’ll give ourselves a chance to break the spell for another winning record. With plenty of days to go, the good news is: all it will take for  ...
