Every time we get an upset in NHL you might get mad – we lost the money on the obvious sure win where a big team did not show up at home. SO how is it a good thing?
What’s an upset? In NHL the upset happen pretty often. Oilers won over Sharks? Detroit could not beat Columbus and took it to shootout. Oilers again won over Chicago 4-3. You name it, you’ve seen them many times.
On the short sight it looks like a bad thing and makes you lose the bet which is true.
However on the other hand the upset is an amazing long term value for NHL sports investors.
Why?
Now imagine you have no upset. Every game columbus meets the good team they lose 5-0 or 6-0. Now think about it – what kind of odd will be offered for these games? Pathetic 1.12 like on NFL? Or spreads -2.5 paying 1.44 ? Do we really want this?
I believe the upsets is the only good thing that keeps NHL odds so profitable and good for us.
Remember this next time when you curse your big team for not showing up and thank Oilers and Columbus for their every hard earned win.
