Are the New England Patriots still Super Bowl favorites?

Week 1 wasn’t supposed to end like it did for the New England Patriots. Hammered by the Kansas City Chiefs at home, 42-27, the Patriots’ dream of a perfect season went up in flames before it could even start.

New England was projected to win all 16 of its regular season games, and now that the team has lost, it seems like many are already giving up on the Pats. Week 1 saw Tom Brady and company greatly under perform, but the Patriots did play the AFC West’s winners from 2016. So, expecting the Chiefs to rollover was a  ...

NFL MVP Futures: Tom Brady is the early favorite

Status

Super Bowl XLIX - New England Patriots v Seattle Seahawks

The NFL preseason kicks off tonight with the Dallas Cowboys clashing with the Arizona Cardinals. It feels like a long time since Super Bowl 51 ended and the start of the 2017 preseason, but it has finally arrived. With it comes optimism for 32 teams vying for a Super Bowl ring. Only two will be good enough to play in the biggest NFL game of them all, however.

In our last NFL article, we looked at the futures for Super Bowl 52. Now we will look at the futures for NFL Most Valuable Player. Last year’s winner, Matt Ryan, will have a great chance to win it again. But with the Falcons not in the top five of best odds to win the Super Bowl, sportsbooks may believe a repeat isn’t on the cards.

So, who are the favorites to win this year’s NFL MVP?

Tom Brady +550

Tom Brady finished last season as the runner-up to Ryan in the NFL MVP race. In 2016, Brady threw for 28 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Oh, and he led New England to the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history when the Pats came from behind to beat the Falcons. The main reason Brady didn’t finish as last season’s NFL MVP was due to missing four games. If he’d been available, it could have been expected he would have topped Ryan in the MVP race. By the way, USA Today predicts the Pats to go a perfect 16-0 again. Brady is the greatest of all-time, if that happens.

Aaron Rodgers +600

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are being picked by some to be this year’s NFC Super Bowl representative. The Packers just missed out on the Super Bowl in 2016, and could have what it takes this season. Last year, Rodgers threw 40 touchdowns and just seven interceptions as the Packers finished 10-6. In this year’s USA Today NFL record projections, Green Bay is predicted to win 12 games. If that happens, it may be due to a career year from Mr. Rodgers.

Derek Carr +800

Thirteen NFL seasons went by between Oakland Raiders’ playoff appearances. Prior to last year’s playoff berth, the Raiders hadn’t made the postseason since 2002 when the team played in the Super Bowl. Derek Carr was everything to the black and silver a year ago. With him, the Raiders were unstoppable. Without him, the team struggled. Twenty-eight touchdowns, six interceptions and more than 3,900 yards in passing were tallied by Carr. He is a great pick for NFL MVP, he isn’t at the top of the list, but with a great chance to win it all as a slight underdog. Carr’s bid for the trophy will really depend on how good the AFC West is and if the Raiders can top the division. If they can, it means Carr has played his best season yet.

Ben Roethlisberger +900

Ben Roethlisberger has done just about everything in the NFL, except win the NFL MVP award. The Ohio native has two Super Bowl rings and has passed for nearly 50,000 yards in his career. Yet, no MVP trophy has come his way. The Steelers topped the AFC Central with 11 wins in 2016, and this year, the team is projected to tally 12 wins. If the Steelers are to win 12 games and win another central title, Roethlisberger needs a solid season under center.

The NFL season kicks off on September 7th. If you haven’t made your futures bets on Super Bowl winner and NFL MVP, then what are you waiting for?

SUPERBOWL 51: All the Bets From Zcode If you read last week’s article then you know we’re leaning on the Falcons. If not, be sure to check it out. As more and more of the public money funnels in on the Patriots -3 (currently 66%) and Vegas has made no moves to adjust the line, we feel even more confident in our early prediction. It appears Vegas is taking a stake in Atlanta and so should you.

Betting the NFL Playoffs 2016: The Championship Games Here is Z-Code’s guide to betting the last weekend of football until the Superbowl.

Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons The Green Bay Packers continued their string of on-the-road and underdog victories last weekend by upsetting the Cowboys in Dallas. Most of the country saw that as a surprise but if you followed this blog then you would have made money on that game. Tomorrow the Packers face off in Atlanta against the Falcons and here’s why we see this as the end of the road for the Packers. First, Dallas was  ...

NFL Playoffs Divisional Rounds: Who to Bet The NFL playoffs are underway and last week went almost exactly as we predicted it. Here are Z-code’s picks for the divisional round.

Steelers at Chiefs The Steelers are by far the better team and they’re as healthy as they can be. However, Pitt struggles to play at its best when on the road. Vegas is currently viewing this game as a toss up with no spread listed and Pitt only a slight underdog at +108. We’re taking the steelers here and this is why. The Chiefs are a solid team but lack  ...

NFL 2016 Playoffs: The Wildcard Games

2016 NFL Playoff Predictions, Week 1: The Wildcard Games NFC Week 1 Byes: Cowboys, Falcons Lions at Seahawks The Seahawks haven’t lost a playoff game at home in 12 years and the Lions haven’t beaten a single playoff team this year. Aside from Matthew Stafford’s borderline MVP-worthy performance this year, this Lions team doesn’t have the weapons to challenge Seattle here. We have Detroit’s offense ranked at 21 which will not be able to cut it against the 5th ranked Seattle defense- especially when you factor in the 12th man. Seattle is favored by 8 points in this game and  ...

NFL Christmas Eve 2016: Week 16 Football Betting

Here are Z-code’s picks for the Saturday games. Hopefully Christmas will come early this year. We have a lot of picks so we’ll go through them more quickly in this article.

Cardinals at Seahawks Seahawks are monsters at home and Arizona has been mediocre recently. Expect a low scoring game but take Seattle by a touchdown. This game will be virtually meaningless to each team but count on the 12th man to get it done.

Redskins vs. Panthers The Panthers are a 5 win team who can’t find any semblence of momentum on either side of the ball. The Redskins are half a game back from a wild card playoff position and desperately need a win today. With the Bucs in a tough matchup against the Cowboys, Washington has a chance to leap into the wildcard spot in this juicy home matchup. The Redskins haven’t lost at home since week 2 and the Panthers are 1-5 on the road  ...
