NHL Picks Contest Round 10 ($100 Prize): New York Islanders at Florida Panthers

NHL Picks Contest Round Ten ($100 Prize): New York Islanders at Florida Panthers

It’s funny, but I think the most difficult game to predict this Tuesday is between two pretty bad teams. The Panthers aren’t far removed from the playoffs and went out and got a pretty decent goalie in Tim Thomas, but they’ve struggled most of the year. The New York Islanders, in perhaps even more disappointing fashion, traded for Thomas Vanek only to sputter into the depths of the Metropolitan Division. Bad teams lend to volatility, and I really like this game as a contest pick…

I don’t normally do this, but I found this testimonial on the main page of the VIP Club wall to be pretty interesting. A new bettor has come into the community with tremendous success and I wanted to feature his thoughts here. We don’t claim to be able to hit 30 out of every 33 bets, but this guy utilized a variety of systems and picks to do so. As he learns money management and stabilizes his success into less volatile predictions, we expect nothing but another happy member of the community.  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize) Standings Update: Devils Flyers

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize, $50 Runner up): Standings Update

My New Jersey Devils blew the lead in the third, and ultimately lost in overtime to the hated Philadelphia Flyers. A few of you were able to successfully predict the outcome of this challenging game. Congratulations!

Here are our updated standings going into the tenth round of the contest. Things are heating up, and there’s a lot of clutter at the top. Keep it up! Duane held onto his lead, but it’s still anybody’s game!

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

As usual, we’ve picked a good one. The line is essentially a coin flip and the computer and I disagree. Tough game to predict.

For me this comes down to goaltending and defense. I think the Devils have the better goalie, I think neither team has much of a defense, and I think the Devils’ depth matches up well with the Flyers’ isolated scoring. At home, I think that’s all they’ll need to win this one.

The computer looks at how hot the Flyers are, but I feel like the  ...

NHL Picks: Columbus Blue Jackets at New York Rangers

With the NCAA BCS Championship, I’m not betting very aggressively on hockey today. I know I won’t really be watching the games, and I know my attention will be on football. That said, I like this line.

The New York Rangers have played very predictable hockey over their last four games, and we’ve predicted those outcomes successfully four times in a row. We knew the Penguins, hot as they were, would probably beat up on New York. We also liked New York to win games against inferior opponents in the other  ...

NHL Picks Contest Round Nine ($100 Prize): Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils

– Tuesday, January 7th

I don’t know that there’s a rivalry I enjoy more than Flyers Devils. This year, both teams are in a cluttered battle for the third playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Devils have played better of late and are home, but the Flyers are surging into relevance again.

Who ya got?

Here are our standings after eight rounds:

NHL Picks – Winter Classic Predictions: Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings

NHL Picks: Winter Classic Predictions – Toronto Maple Leafs at Detroit Red Wings

Ah, some good ol’ fashioned pond hockey on New Year’s Day. Does it get any better? Maybe slightly better, if the teams were having better years. Either way, this should be a dandy.

Two of the most inconsistent teams in hockey play an outdoor game in front of a national audience. The quality of the ice is tricky, the game tends to be a little sloppy, and the nostalgia is full blown. This should be a fun contest between two Original Six franchises.

The Red Wings have  ...

NHL Picks: Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators

NHL Picks: Detroit Red Wings at Nashville Predators

The Detroit Red Wings have been one of the most volatile teams in hockey this year. They lose to teams they should beat, they beat teams they should lose to. It’s tough to trust the Wings right now.

That said, they’re heating up. The Wings have played better in their last few games. Meanwhile, though they pulled off a surprising upset in their last game, the Nashville Predators are really struggling. They don’t have weapons offensively and without Pekka Rinne they’ve been inconsistent defensively.

I think the Red Wings, though they’re on  ...

NHL Picks and Predictions: Phoenix Coyotes at Anaheim Ducks

I don’t usually toot my own horn, but I’m going to take a moment to brag. My forum in the Z-Code membership VIP Club is up nearly 2,000 dollars with an average bet size of just under 100 bucks. We’re killing it this season and on pace to match our nearly 4,000 dollars of profit this past MLB season. This consistent new approach is a combination of Z-Code algorithms, personal analysis, and a less aggressive system than in years past. We’re on fire.

Today, I feature one of the picks from my  ...

NHL Picks Contest Round Eight: San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize) Round Eight: San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks

Tuesday, December 31st

Christmas break is over and hockey is finally back. Another battle between California rivals gives us our eighth round of the contest. I think the Sharks are the better team, but they lack consistency on the road. The Ducks have been excellent this season, but they can be streaky. I think Anaheim versus San Jose is going to be a great one.

Who will win this game?

I know I say this every week, but it’s still anyone’s game. You can conceivably enter the competition right now and still win the whole thing. Not a single competitor has gotten past the four-win plateau. With a $50 prize for second place, this is going to be a fun run.

Good luck guys! It’s good to be back. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and let’s keep winning together.
