Had you asked a supporter of West Ham or Chelsea whether the two clubs would meet in April with a Champions League qualification place at stake, and they would have said you were crazy. On Premier League matchday 33 that is exactly what we will get, however.
West Ham host Chelsea at the London Stadium in one of the big matches taking place this weekend. Six games will be played this weekend in the Premier League over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Let’s take a look at some picks for the weekend.
West Ham vs. Chelsea
West Ham and Chelsea will play the biggest league game of Premier League matchday 33. Chelsea are fourth in the league and currently occupying the final Champions League place. West Ham are fifth and level on points with the Blues, but trail thanks to goal difference. The winner of the game will have the inside track to Champions League qualification.
Chelsea have dipped in form winning just once in their last four league matches. They will have one eye on next week’s Champions League semifinal match with Real Madrid. It could cause them to overlook the Hammers.
West Ham are coming off of a 3-2 loss against Newcastle United. The good news for David Moyes is that his team have played well against Chelsea in recent seasons. They won both league games in 2019-20. However, Chelsea won the reverse fixture against West Ham at home 3-0 in December.
Although Chelsea are not playing well, they should get a positive result (win or draw) against West Ham. The Hammers have been fun to watch but should come up just short in the top four race. If you want to bet on a player to score, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard is in great form. He has nine goals in 10 games for the Hammers since joining in January.

Liverpool vs. Newcastle United
Liverpool are in the top four race and trail Chelsea and West Ham by two points. The Reds could be big winners this weekend, moving ahead of either of the London clubs. However, Jurgen Klopp’s team need to defeat an in-form Newcastle United.
Newcastle United are unbeaten in three straight games with back-to-back matches ending in wins. The Magpies are moving away from the bottom three and nearing safety.
Liverpool snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory last weekend. Sadio Mane’s goal was canceled out with three minutes to play by Leeds United’s Diego Llorente. Newcastle United could shock the Reds at Anfield. The teams drew earlier this season nil-nil at St. James’ Park. Still, the Reds should improve on their recent form and claim a home win.

Leeds United vs. Manchester United
Manchester United are second in the league and on a five-match winning streak. They have been excellent over their last five games, but go up against an in-form Leeds United on Sunday. Leeds United are unbeaten in five straight games with three of those finishing in wins.
Leeds are the most fun team to watch in the league. They concede goals and score them in equal measure. Leeds have scored 50 times and conceded 50 times.
Manchester United thrashed Leeds United in the reverse fixture, 6-2. Sunday’s game should be much closer. It is difficult to believe the Red Devils will run away with another big win. Leeds have recently beaten Manchester City and Liverpool. They could get something from the Red Devils. Conventional thinking leads me to believe Manchester United will win a very close game.
