NHL Picks and Predictions: New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers

This might be my favorite rivalry in hockey. Even though the Devils are exhausted and slumping, I expect a battle.

I don’t think the New York Rangers are that good. They’ve got one of the best defensive top pairings in hockey, and their goaltender, who just inked a massive contract, is definitely one of the best in hockey. Still, over the past few years, the Rangers haven’t had much success against the Devils. From “Henrique, it’s over!” to bad bounces off the stanchions of the Prudential Center, or even a last-second goalie interference call… Henrik Lundqvist has had some bad luck against New Jersey.

So why should we believe that’s about to change tonight? New Jersey is on a back to back and they certainly aren’t the same team they were the past few years, but this line is way too sharp. This is a rivalry. It will be competitive.

I like the Devils +1.5, and heck, they might even win this thing outright. Z-Code sees some value on the Devils, but expects a Rangers win. I think that makes sense given that New York is home and fresh… but don’t sell the Devils short here. This will be a battle – and possibly Martin Brodeur’s last trip to MSG.

Devils 2 – Rangers 3
