NFL Picks: Thursday Night Football – Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars

I like the Houston Texans lately. They’ve been playing inspired under their hometown hero quarterback, but find a way to lose each week. As such, it’s hard to trust them with big money – especially on the road in a short week.

This is a dangerous game for sure. Are the Texans playing for draft picks or pride?

The only really surprising win the Jaguars have had on their little hot streak was against the Titans, and that game was riddled with mistakes by Tennessee. I think the Jags are still exactly who we think they are. They’ve got one of the weakest quarterbacks in football, an aging running back that is performing capably, and a beatable defense that is doing well in recent weeks. They’re hot, but they’re still terrible.

The Texans are just learning who they are. Case Keenum has played very well and has yet to get a win that he deserves. I highly doubt the Texans will throw in the towel – they have a young quarterback that they’re desperate to get confident. The defense is still strong enough to shut down the Jaguars, and the offense has a few more weeks of experience with their new signal caller.

The Jags can run the ball on Houston, but I think the better coach, better quarterback, and better team prevails here on the road. Public money has me nervous, as it’s all on the road team and home teams have an advantage in a short week. Still, the line is moving to reflect a fear of such one-sided action.

I just don’t see the jags sweeping the Texans – especially now that they’ve figured things out a bit in recent weeks.

Case Keenum gets his first win. 30 – 13
