NHL Picks: Chicago Blackhawks at Ottawa Senators
Supporting Patrick Kane is tough. He’s a rapist (allegedly and then not allegedly and now maybe allegedly again in a civil action). He beats up cab drivers (fact). He scores a point every single game (also fact). He’s on one of the most consistent teams in hockey over the last decade… But do ethics have a role in gambling? Doesn’t a part of you want this guy to fall flat on his face? Like how we kind of all are rooting for Michael Vick to break his leg again in some freak dog-related accident?
The Chicago Blackhawks are a really solid team, but every year they seem to lose pieces. The core remains the same, but depth players come and go. Watching depth and defense walk away is what ripped apart the Boston Bruins last year to a certain degree. The Chicago Blackhawks kind of look like the Bruins a little, don’t they?
The Ottawa Senators came out of nowhere in a VERY late run at sneaking into the playoffs last year. I really like this team. I like the youth infusion that makes them exciting, I like the goaltending tandem that appears to have completely overachieved last season, and I like that the face of their franchise for the last two decades leaves the team at the last minute to watch them succeed. I’m all about loyalty. That’s what makes this so hard.
I’m on the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. I don’t like rooting for them but I’m going to here. I think they’re simply the better team and the line has value. The Ottawa Senators are decent and at home I think there’s reason for moderate caution here, but I think Chicago will be able to control this one, even on the road. The computer seems home dog value here, but I like established favorites and consistent teams when I build my system.
