NFL Picks December 6: Rams and Cardinals Battle in NFC West

With just a month remaining in the NFL season, every game is important for playoff positioning. There are some key divisional matchups with the Rams and Cardinals headlining the action.

Los Angeles Rams versus Arizona Cardinals

The Rams enter play with a 7-4 record, second in the NFC West. The Cardinals are third in the division with a 6-5 mark. Los Angeles are a 1.62 to 2.355 favorite with a line of -3.5 and an over/under of 48.5. Both teams are “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Rams have a +26 to +20 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. If considering the over/under, the Totals Predictor indicates betting “over” is a solid bet. Neither team has been particularly stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Rams won both meetings between the teams last season and that trend will continue as the Rams will win and cover.

Washington Football Team versus Pittsburgh Steelers

The Football Team enters with a 4-7 mark and head to face the 10-0 Steelers.  Not surprisingly, the Steelers are a huge 1.21 to 4.77 favorite with a line of 10. Both teams enter play “burning hot” with the Steelers holding a +31 to +24 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Totals Predictor shows both teams participating in games scoring well over the line, so placing a bet on the “over” is a smart play. The Steelers have been one of the most consistent teams at +7 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. The Redskins will stay with the Steelers for a time, but Pittsburgh is too overpowering and will take over at the end. The Steelers will win and cover.

Cleveland Browns versus Tennessee Titans

Both teams head into the game with 8-3 records and in excellent position for the playoffs. The Titans are a substantial 1.37 to 3.175 favorites with a line of -6.5 and over/under of 54.5. The teams are both “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Browns have a narrow +25 to +24 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have been on opposite sides of the over/under line, so it’s best to avoid betting the over/under in this game. Cleveland has been much more consistent according to their favorite/underdog status, which is even more reason to bet on the Titans. Also, the Titans dominated in their meeting last season, winning by the score of 43-13. Expect another win by the Titans, covering the spread.

New England Patriots versus Los Angeles Chargers

Both teams enter under .500 and need help to get to the playoffs. The Patriots are 5-6 and and Chargers are at 3-8. The odds are identical at 1.910 although the point spread line favors the Chargers slightly at -1.5. The over/under is at 47.5.  The teams have been on opposite sides of the over/under, so it’s prudent to avoid that bet. The Patriots have a +9 to +4 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. New England has been surprisingly consistent at +9 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I will go against that in this, however, feeling the Patriots can cover and win outright on the road.

Buffalo Bills versus San Francisco 49ers

The Bills lead the AFC East with an 8-3 record and the 49ers are last in the NFC West with a 5-6 record. Buffalo is a 1.64 to 2.23 favorite with a line of 2.5 and over/under of 45.5. There is a decided edge to the Bills on the Power Ranking Indicator at +21 to +10 and “average up” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. In addition the Bills are more consistent according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Expect a high scoring game, so betting the “over” is a safe bet. There is little to believe the 49ers can win this one. Take the Bills to win and cover.
