Originally, I was very high on the Carolina Panthers. I think they match up very well with the Chiefs. The Panthers have the rushing attack to dominate a weaker team, and the Chiefs may be the worst team in football. I also think the Panthers are starting to turn things around. Even on the road, I thought -3 was a steal against the worst team in football.
Then, the unthinkable happened. Linebacker Javon Belcher killed himself in front of his head coach on Saturday morning after murdering his girlfriend.
I am unsure how the Kansas City Chiefs will handle this tragedy. It could motivate them, or it could crush them. I think it will crush them, but I’m not sure, and I think it’s a bit too much volatility to push forward. I still like the Panthers, but not nearly as much as I would have if the Chiefs weren’t dealing with such confusing tragedy.
