NBA Predictions: November 17

Note that all records are for games played through November 14

Detroit Pistons versus Indiana Pacers

The Pistons come in as one of the hottest teams in the NBA with a record of 10-3. The Pacers are in the middle of the pack in the conference at 6-5. Detroit won both meetings between the teams this season on October 9 and November 8. Not a surprise, the Pistons are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Pacers are “ice cold up”. Similarly, there is a huge 14 point advantage for the Pistons on the Power Ranking Indicator. Nothing shows me that Indiana can take down Detroit in this one.

New York Knicks versus Toronto Raptors

In this Atlantic Division battle, the 7-6 Knicks take on the 8-5 Raptors. While the teams are relatively evenly matched, last season the Raptors won all four games between the teams. Toronto comes in with a “burning hot” status on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Knicks are “ice cold down”. The Raptors hold a +24 to +21 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Knicks are tied for seventh in Team Volatility, not a good sign when a road underdog. I see the Raptors taking a closely fought battle, pulling away late.

Oklahoma City Thunder versus San Antonio Spurs

The Thunder took all three meetings between the teams last season, but that is likely to change. San Antonio comes in at 9-5 and tied for first in Team Volatility. That bodes well if they are the favorites, which they should be at home come tip off. The Spurs are at -0.87 on the Team Strength Oscillator versus -4.04 for the Thunder. They also hold at +15 to +11 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. While I see a close game, the Spurs will end their losing streak against Oklahoma City.

Portland Trail Blazers versus Sacramento Kings

Both teams enter with “ice cold down” status on the Team Strength Oscillator, although Portland has a +8.81 to +3.6 edge. The Trail Blazers won two of the three meetings last season. The Kings are +11 on the Power Ranking Indicator but plummeting, while Portland is at +6. Hard to envision the 3-10 Kings winning, despite being at home. I see Portland winning rather comfortably in about a six to ten point margin.

Phoenix Suns versus Los Angeles Lakers

In this Pacific Division match up between two sub .500 teams, both teams are fairing poorly on the Team Strength Oscillator. Phoenix is “dead up”, while the Lakers are “ice cold down”. Los Angeles has a slight +9 to +5 edge in the Power Ranking Indicator and are tied for 10th in Team Volatility. The Lakers already won in Phoenix this year as a road underdog and I predict a win as the home favorite this time around.

Minnesota Timberwolves versus Dallas Mavericks

I don’t see anything sticking out that leads me to believe the Mavericks can pull off an upset. They are 2-13 and -6.82 and “dead up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Minnesota won the first meeting this season between the teams and holds at +14 to +1 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Making matters worse for the Mavericks is they are tied for fourth in Team Volatility. This means they are consistently losing as underdogs and winning as favorites. An underdog in this one, the Mavericks will lose by a considerable margin.
