NBA Predictions: February 2

Atlanta Hawks versus Boston Celtics

Although Boston still leads in the Atlantic Division, they have played relatively poorly over their last ten. This is indicated by their “dead” status on the Team Strength Oscillator and their +4 rating on the Power Ranking Indicator. Atlanta is also fairly poorly of late, with an “ice cold down” status and +5 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Boston has won the first two this season as road favorites. It’s hard to envision them losing at home, so go with the Celtics, as they will pull away in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Brooklyn Nets

The Lakers come in on a hot streak, at +27 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Brooklyn is heading in the opposite direction as “ice cold down” and on a steep decline on the Power Ranking Indicator at +5. The Lakers won as a home favorite on November 3. Furthermore, the Lakers will likely be a road favorite and are sixth in Team Volatility. I see the Lakers winning rather comfortably.

Miami Heat versus Philadelphia 76ers

Miami heads to Philadelphia in the first meeting between the teams this season. The Heat are fourth in the East, while the 76ers are eighth. Both teams are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Heat hold a slight +17 to +15 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator.  The 76ers have lost many large leads this season, in part due to leading the league in turnovers. While the Heat have the better record, the hunch is to go with the 76ers at home in a close game.

New York Knicks versus Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks won two of three meetings between the teams last season, but have not met yet this season. The Knicks are “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Bucks are “burning hot”. Milwaukee also has a huge +26 to +3 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. A certain underdog on the road, the Knicks are also tied for third in Team Volatility, further leading me to pick the Bucks. Milwaukee should win this one by double-digits.

Utah Jazz versus Phoenix Suns

Although Phoenix won the first meeting this season as a home underdog, Utah enters trying to make a push for a playoff spot, while the Suns are plummeting towards the bottom of the conference. They are “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator, while the Jazz are “average”. Not surprisingly, the Jazz also have a large +17 to +2 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. There’s little indication that the Suns can take this one, despite playing at home. The Jazz haven’t played well on the road, but will be good enough to edge the Suns in this one.

Golden State Warriors versus Sacramento Kings

The Warriors are the first team to 40-wins this season and a comfortable lead over the Rockets in the Western Conference. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +25 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Sacramento has the worst record in the Western Conference with an “average up” status and +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Surprisingly, the Kings won the first meeting as a road underdog. Tied for tenth in Team Volatility, the Kings are likely a home underdog. Look for the Warriors to even the season series with an easy victory.
