NBA Picks January 29: Clippers Versus Cavaliers Headline Action

The NBA season is inching toward the halfway mark and teams are looking to head into the All-Star break with some momentum. There are four games set to tip off on Sunday, January 29 with the Cavaliers hosting the Clippers in the featured game.

Los Angeles Clippers versus Cleveland Cavaliers

Both teams enter play in the middle of the playoff picture in their respective conference, but the teams are heading in opposite directions. Los Angeles is “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator, but Cleveland still has a +23 to +19 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Clippers have been involved in games “over” the line in five of their last six, while the Cavaliers have been involved in games “under” in four of their last six. The Score Predictor likes the Clippers by a 120-115 score with 68 percent confidence. I will ride with the hotter team at the moment and go with the Clippers but pass on the over/under.

Miami Heat versus Charlotte Hornets

Miami enters the contest 6th in the Eastern Conference, while Charlotte is second from the bottom. The Heat are “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +21 to +3 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been trending on opposite sides of the “over/under” line and the Score Predictor has a 113-113 deadlock with 69 percent confidence. Of course, a game cannot be tie, so it just shows how tight we feel the game will be. The Hornets are one of the most stable teams in the league at +21 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like Miami to get a road win, but pass on the over/under bet.

Indiana Pacers versus Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis continues to roll, sitting 2nd in the Western Conference. Indiana is on the outside of the playoff picture looking in at 9th in the Eastern Conference. Both teams are struggling, losing a combined nine of their last 12 games. Indiana is “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +15 on the Power Ranks Indicator, while Memphis is +25 and “ice cold down”, respectively. The Score Predictor has Memphis in a 129-112 blowout with 58 percent confidence in the prediction. Memphis is extremely stable at +25 on the Team Volatility Oscillator versus +13 for Indiana. Memphis has a huge advantage both in talent and playing at home. I like them in the game going “over” the line.

New Orleans Pelicans versus Milwaukee Bucks

A total mismatch on paper, the Pelicans come in “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator after dropping their last six, while the Bucks are “burning hot” and 4-2 over their last six. Milwaukee has a +23 to +14 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator and the Score Predictor has Milwaukee by 11 points, 122-111, with nearly 79 percent confidence. Both teams have been trending in games “under” the line over their last three games. New Orleans is among the most consistent teams in the league with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I don’t see much of a contest here. Go with the Bucks by double digits in a game “under” the line.
