MLB Predictions: First Half Baseball Recap

MLB Predictions: First Half Baseball Recap

We ended the first half on a small slide but are still up six units as we finish off the All Star Break. We’ve rode our traditional favorites to some pretty good results, and we’ve also been able to adjust as the markets shifted to keep winning. In the end, we were right about a lot of teams and wrong about some others, but we had a profitable start to another season. We almost got the entire NL right.

AL East
- We were right about the cluster of mediocrity in this division, but we were very wrong about the Boston Red Sox. I didn’t think they had the pitching to be consistent, but I did think they’d be better. And hey, look at my New York Yankees…

What we predicted:
1. Baltimore Orioles
2. Boston Red Sox
3. New York Yankees
4. Toronto Blue Jays
5. Tampa Bay Rays

What the actual results are:
1. New York Yankees
2. Baltimore Orioles
3. Tampa Bay Rays
4. Toronto Blue Jays
5. Boston Red Sox

AL Central
- I didn’t’ think the Twins would be relevant again, but I thought this division was highly mediocre. I was nervous picking the Detroit Tigers to win this one, but they’re not out of the race just yet. I slept on the Royals and right now I regret it. We’ll see how this shakes out down the stretch.

What we predicted:
1. Detroit Tigers
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Kansas City Royals
4. Chicago White Sox
5. Minnesota Twins

What the actual results are:
1. Kansas City Royals
2. Minnesota Twins
3. Detroit Tigers
4. Cleveland Indians
5. Chicago White Sox
AL West
- A lot of people picked the Mariners to lead the division but we picked the Angels and so far we’re happy. The Houston Astros have been surprising so far, but they’ve fallen off of late. All in all, I like how this division looks.

What we predicted:
1. Los Angeles Angels
2. Seattle Mariners
3. Oakland Athletics
4. Texas Rangers
5. Houston Astros

What the actual results are:
1. Los Angeles Angels
2. Houston Astros
3. Texas Rangers
4. Oakland Athletics
5. Seattle Mariners

NL East
- Well, we got this division completely correct. Not much to say here… we’re awesome.

What the actual results are:
1. Washington Nationals
2. NY Mets
3. Atlanta Braves
4. Miami Marlins
5. Philadelphia Phillies

NL Central
- We got this whole division completely correct, too. Again, we really are awesome.

What the actual results are:
1. St. Louis Cardinals
2. Pittsburgh Pirates
3. Chicago Cubs
4. Cincinnati Reds
5. Milwaukee Brewers

NL West
- I’m pretty mad at the Padres for falling behind the Giants in this division and being this overwhelming, but we were really close to having the whole National League 100% correct. The Rockies have been a bit of a let down and the Dbacks were marginally better, but maybe those guys will shake out in our favor as the season winds down.

What we predicted:
1. LA Dodgers
2. San Diego Padres
3. San Francisco Giants
4. Colorado Rockies
5. Arizona Diamondbacks

What the actual results are:
1. LA Dodgers
2. San Francisco Giants
3. San Diego Padres
4. Arizona Diamondbacks
5. Colorado Rockies

  1. Nobody has a great team, but as for me Atlanta is the most balanced. That portends them being the one to pick for the division
  2. I know it won't happen, sure would be very surprised. I did pick Atlanta and Arizona in my pool but I still hope I'm wrong.
