The Major League Baseball season has been overshadowed by three aspects this offseason: the Houston Astros cheating scandal, new rule changes, and a proposed playoff structure showing Rob Manfred doesn’t care about baseball, just money.
Spring training is in full swing and the MLB 2020 season will start on March 26th. It is the earliest opening day in MLB history as the league’s 30 teams via for five playoff spots in the American and National Leagues and a place in the World Series.
The Washington Nationals won the 2019 World Series defeating the Houston Astros. The Nats play in the toughest division in baseball, the National League East, and a return to the World Series isn’t guaranteed.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made upgrades in the offseason with the most significant being the addition of Mookie Betts. The Dodgers are leading sportsbooks’ second-favorite to win the World Series. So, who is the favorite to lift the trophy?

Rule Changes
The biggest change heading into the MLB 2020 season is the rule. The changes that have been implemented could affect your betting on big-league baseball. The idea behind the changes is to make the games faster, more competitive and bring fans back to the game.
You probably already know that MLB teams continue to suffer a decline in live attendances to games. It is hoped old fans will return to baseball with the rule changes and new ones will be made. The changes are just MLB suits grasping at straws.
The most significant rule changes could be the following:
– 3 batter minimum – Managers can no longer swap pitchers in and out. Each hurler must face at least 3 batters or pitch to the end of the half-inning. This rule could have an impact on run totals as managers won’t be able to remove a relief pitcher from the game until he faces 3 hitters. A pitcher in a jam cannot be saved by his manager.
– Squad size – Teams will be able to carry 26 players rather than 25. This gives a manager one more option off of the bench.
– Pitchers – Pitchers placed on the injured list must miss a minimum of 15 days. This is a change from the previous 10-day minimum.
Who will win the World Series? LA Dodgers
It is always difficult to say who will win the World Series. This time last year, who would have believed the Nationals would win it all?
That said, it is difficult to see past the LA Dodgers after they traded for Betts from Boston. The Dodgers have reigning NL MVP Cody Bellinger and added to the pitching rotation by trading for David Price along with Betts. He joins Clayton Kershaw in La La Land.
The Dodgers have come close in recent seasons and I predict Dave Roberts will finally lead them to the championship.
On the AL side, the Astros are a good team but may not rebound from the sign-stealing scandal that has swept baseball. The Yankees could be the team to come from the AL as they have only got stronger in the offseason. The Dodgers should win it all even with the Yankees improving once more.
