MLB World Series: Lessons learned from game 2

The Major League Baseball World Series is all to play for after Houston’s dramatic 11 inning win over the Dodgers in game 2. The World Series’ first game was a pitching duel that saw the Dodgers win 3-1. Clayton Kershaw threw well, picking up the win.

Game 2 saw the bats come alive. The Astros scored in each of the last four innings as the game went to 11. Game 3 is on the horizon (Friday night), and the World Series is evenly matched as the teams shift to Houston.

The experts had said to bet on the Cleveland Indians as the computer nerds calculated the team couldn’t lose the World Series. Well, five games into the Major League Baseball playoffs and Cleveland is finished. The New York Yankees defeated the Tribe in five games. New York came back after losing the series’ first two games to take three straight. The Yankees now face off with Houston for the privilege to represent the American League in the World Series.

Taking a look at the teams in this inter league match up, playoff bound Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Kansas City Royals, looking to finish at .500. According to the Power Ranking Indicator, the Diamondbacks hold a +22 to +15 advantage. They also hold a +6.62 to -4.31 advantage in the MLB Team Strength Oscillator. Neither teams ranks in the top 10 in Team Volatility, therefore the favorite and underdog status will play a deciding factor in my predictions this week.

There is just one week to go in the Major League Baseball regular season and the MLB playoffs begin on October 3rd.  It’s just about time for the postseason to start and a made dash for the World Series trophy.

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the Cleveland Indians and why bettors should wager on the Tribe to win the World Series. This time, let’s look at the MLB playoffs and see if the Indians are still a team that, should not only be bet on, but is being undervalued by bookies.

In this American League East battle, the Yankees are trying to secure a spot in the post season and an outside shot at the division, while the Blue Jays look to play spoiler. Examining the two teams, the Yankees hold the edge +4 to -3.32 in terms of the MLB Team Strength Oscillator. Similarly, the Yankees have a +21 to +14 advantage in the Power Ranking Indicator. Neither team cracks the top ten in Team Volatility, making the favorite/underdog status less important in predicting the outcome of this series.

Are the Cleveland Indians this year’s World Series Champions?

The Cleveland Indians have the best win record in the American League (as of this writing) and have reeled off an unbelievable 19 straight wins. The Tribe has 18 games left this season, and projections have the baseball team winning 100 games, second most behind the Los Angeles Dodgers’ projected 103 wins.

ZCode System’s power rankings has Cleveland as the best team in baseball. The Dodgers have fallen to ninth as the team looks unlikely of stopping its slide.

The Yankees are second in the American League East, while the Rangers are third in the American League West. Looking at the overall trend and current power of the two teams, I see the Yankees hold a big +25 to +14 edge in the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Rangers hold a slim +4.28 to +2.34 advantage in terms of the MLB Strength Oscillator. Neither team is in the top ten in Team Volatility, so I am putting little value into favorite and underdog status in this  ...
