MLB World Series futures: First pitch is around the corner

staton

Pitchers and catchers report for Major League Baseball spring training on February 12th, 13th and 14th. The 2018 season is just around the corner, and baseball fans are getting excited for the boys of summer to return. With spring training comes MLB World Series futures for the new season. Trades are already playing their part with sports books and their odds decisions. Which teams have the best MLB World Series futures odds heading into this year’s spring training?

MLB World Series futures:

New York Yankees +500

The New York Yankees head into 2018 as the MLB World Series futures favorites. The Yankees addition of power hitter Giancarlo Stanton has been cited as the main reason the Yankees are considered top dogs. Stanton cranked 59 home runs and 132 RBIs in his final season with the Miami Marlins. Despite being unable to lead the Fish to the World Series, he is with far better players in New York. The East will be difficult with the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles trying to knock off their hated rivals. The Yankees also come into the season with a new manager. Aaron Boone takes over for Joe Girardi. The team has the pieces to win, but doing it on the field is far different than on paper. Still, the Yankees are the favorites going into spring training.

Houston Astros +600

The reigning World Series champion Houston Astros come in as sports books second favorite team. The Astros didn’t go out and change the squad after winning the World Series, but the team did add a few players to strengthen it. However, the biggest news out of the organization was the suspensions of first baseman Jon Singleton and pitcher Dean Deetz for violating the MLB drug policy. Neither player was with the big league team last season, but it is still a black eye on the World Series champions.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers finally got over the hump and made it to the World Series last season. But once again the team flattered to deceive. The Dodgers had an awful August and September, but gained momentum once the playoffs started. The team ran out of fuel, however, once it came up against the Astros. The Dodgers have had a major shake up in the coaching staff and front office. A number of people have left to take positions with other MLB teams. Meanwhile players such as Yu Darvish, Brandon Morrow, Tony Watson and others are expected to sign elsewhere as free agents. The team has shaken things up when it didn’t needed to.

Cleveland Indians +750

The Cleveland Indians were almost back in the World Series in 2017. The Tribe had a fantastic regular season, but couldn’t keep it going during the playoffs. The team was unable to re-sign outfielder Jay Bruce, who re-joined the New York Mets this offseason. Carlos Santana will be biggest loss as he left the team for the National League East’s dark horse, the Philadelphia Phillies. The Indians did replace Santana with Yonder Alonso from the Seattle Mariners. The first baseman isn’t an upgrade, but in the Cleveland lineup he could develop this season.
