This is a very short period of the whole ATP Tour as we switch surfaces once again, this time moving to the grass court for the month of June. The characteristics of the grass are very different than other surfaces, except much faster play and very long rallies. In comparison to clay you can expect much higher service hold and less breaks by about 7%, from 75% on clay up to 82% on grass. There will also be twice as many aces as there are on clay.

NHL Picks Contest Stanley Cup ($100): LA Kings Vs NY Rangers

After a goal scored on an offsides play, the LA Kings stole Game Seven to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. They’re tired, playing seven games in each of their first three series, but they’re winners. The Rangers are hot, disposing of an injured Habs team and resting up for the big series. Both teams are anchored in goaltending. I think I hate the LA Kings more than anything in sports, but as a Devils fan I don’t want to see either team win. This seems like a good way to do a round of the contest, then… right?

This game shapes up as a system pick for two reasons. First, I don’t think the Pirates can complete a four-game sweep against the LA Dodgers in Los Angeles in general. Second, I think the Dodgers are the better team and are in position with two of their best three pitchers going to close out this series. Against relative mediocrity, that’s a big edge with all things considered.

It’s a tough week here for me… We’ve hit all our baseball posts, but I’ve only bet four games. We’ve been off both hockey series because the teams I want to see win don’t look sharp. I think the Angels are one of the greatest anomalies of our time. They have a great coach, an expensive lineup, a solid rotation, and what is supposed to be a decent bullpen. They still keep finding a way to lose games and miss the playoffs.
