Tennis Picks: GRASS SEASON COMING IN JUNE

This is a very short period of the whole ATP Tour as we switch surfaces once again, this time moving to the grass court for the month of June. The characteristics of the grass are very different than other surfaces, except much faster play and very long rallies. In comparison to clay you can expect much higher service hold and less breaks by about 7%, from 75% on clay up to 82% on grass. There will also be twice as many aces as there are on clay.

Grass courts being the fastest on tour will benefit the big servers  ...

ATP 1000 Masters in Madrid – One of the fastest courts in the world. This is heaven for most of the top 10 players who prefer the clay surface: Nadal, Ferrer, Wawrinka and Federer. We will certainly see a lot of top class tennis. Whether Nadal can finally start playing on the level we all came to expect from him, that’s a good question which I cannot answer however I’m sure younger guys like Dimitrov and possibly Janowicz will cause few problems for the opponents and they should go far. All top 10 players will be there and that just gives a general information that the tournament will be very predictable and the competitive standard will be extremely high. Those players that failed this week in Houston will certainly regroup, for example Isner who failed against Brown will certainly push himself a lot more and go at least to the 3rd round. I see Nadal winning the tournament though, simply because it’s clay and he’s just the best on clay. 21st  ...
