MLB Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Royals Tigers

Ventura and Sanchez are both having miserable years with ERAs approaching five. Sanchez, as a veteran, has never been this poor. Ventura, as an upstart young pitcher, is supposed to be doing more than this. Ultimately, either pitcher can implode, which is why I like this as a contest game so much.

The Detroit Tigers are having a disappointing year and sold off their ace, but I still think it’s too early to count this lineup out of the playoff race. The Kansas City Royals got better at the deadline and seem poised for a return to the playoffs despite a confusing offseason where they failed to add the right pieces by most accounts. Still, an active deadline has them poised to make a run at another World Series.

Nathan Eovaldi vs Wade Miley, Sunday July 12. This is my favorite rivalry in sports as a lifelong New York Yankees fan. I love that the Boston Red Sox are struggling this year and bringing up the rear of such a highly mediocre division. I love that the Yankees have found a way to have some relative success despite injuries and mediocrity throughout the roster. It’s been quite a year.

MLB Picks Contest: Cincinnati Reds vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds are off to a poor start, while the Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t exactly impressed anyone either. The Bucs have the better team and they have a strong pitcher on the mound of their own, but he’s no Cueto. I think that makes this a great contest pick for us here.

The MLB Season is starting to get to that point in the season where the bad teams develop some young chemistry, pitchers hit their stride, and the easy money of the first few months is but a fond and distant memory. We cracked the 20 wins above .500 barrier with our forum, but we’ve lost a couple bets since that mark. After another round of our MLB Picks Contest where our participant pool was essentially divided right down the middle again, we had only three winners. The New York Yankees finished off the Kansas City Royals in a relatively comfortable win behind the strong pitching performance of Michael Pineda. As the Yanks finally snap out of a lengthy losing skid after dropping ten of 11, our leaderboard shakes up a little in the early stages of our free MLB Picks Contest with a $100 prize.
