Featured interview with Timothy, a legendary NCAA expert! Lets find out his secrets!
1 . Hi Timothy, tell us more about yourself, where are you from, how
did you get into sports investing?

I was born and lived near Columbus, Ohio but my family moved to Cleveland my sophomore year in high school.  I always played sports growing up and when I was in high school I became friends with a guy who used to pass out the football bet slips .  I learned a lot about why people were making the picks they did back then and I guess I caught the bug.  I started to follow all the games really hard and made a few bucks in high school.  I did not bet on football when I was in college, but still followed it pretty hard and got back into it when I graduated.

 2. You’ve been Zcode member for a long time but became really popular
only recently with your outstanding NCAA picks. What sports do you bet
 besides NCAA?
I bet pro football and local high school football,  but don’t put near the time into it as I do college.  This was the first year I have bet all sports- Baseball, Hockey, and NBA, as well as a few soccer picks here and there, following the Z code experts.

 3. How do you select NCAA picks? What parameters are the most
 important in your opinion?
You made over 20 units of profit already! Outstanding!

Thank you.  I wish I could say I had some really great system, but I don’t.  I look at the games a week ahead of time and try to find what has some good value in the line or  if something really jumps out at me and write down the play.  I usually start with around 20 games that I am looking at.  Then I look at the stats of all the past games and especially the prior week and see if the match up still works on paper.  That usually cuts the list to 10 or 15.  Then I get more in depth.  I look at the athletic program blogs and tweets and see if someone is injured, was arrested, etc.  I read articles from the local papers of the team cities, espn, vegas insider,  etc.  That usually narrows it down even more.  I guess I do it the old school way:  Coaching match-ups, passing offense vs. passing defense, rushing offense vs. rushing defense, locker room problems, returning starters, schedule, and line movements all play a part and even then it’s any given Saturday.

 4. Do you follow college basketball too? Will you apply your approach
to it or some other sports?
I follow college basketball, but I don’t bet much on it unless I am really familiar with both teams.  Typically I play during March Madness.  I have always found the spreads are tougher in college hoops, but that’s just my opinion.

 5. What is the main mistake you did when you just started sports investing?

I made two really big mistakes when I first started.  The first was that I listened to too many people regarding the games.  I hung around a bunch of us who played and everyone had their opinions.  My advice is if you know a sport, follow your gut.  If you don’t, look around Z code and follow those that do.
The second mistake I made was money management.  There was a time when I got out of college that I bet way beyond my means.  These days, if I don’t have the money to lose, I don’t bet it.  That’s why betting a small amount of the bankroll and being consistent is important.  Not easy though.
 6. My favorite question, what makes great people great?
I would consider anyone who has the balls to follow their dream and let nothing stand in their way while dealing with daily adversities to be “great”.  If you have the chance, pick up “The Edge” written by Howard Ferguson.  It’s a great book written in the 80’s filled with inspirational stories and quotes from athletes of the time.  The man who wrote it was a friend and inspiration to me and possibly the greatest high school wrestling coach in Cleveland.
7. Your tips to the followers and fans?
Keep the faith.  This has not been one of my best years, but my goal is to make 60 units this year and we are well on our way.  Also, read the other experts and compare picks. Doc, Dominic, Richard, RSS, Cain, Bryson (6-2 last week, nice) an others all have great insight and knowledge in Zcode Club.
Thank you!
