NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Minnesota Wild

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Minnesota Wild This game is quite the Las Vegas trap. The line opened at -125 and has fallen to -120 despite public money pouring in on the road team, the Washington Capitals. That’s always a dangerous sign on a popular and “obvious” game. What’s more, the Minnesota Wild are way too good to be losing this often. The Wild are due, and really, the Caps are kind of due for a loss.

The schedule has not been kind to the surging Washington Capitals, which makes their play of late all the more impressive. They are  ...

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

NHL Picks: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals

I like the Vancouver Canucks. Their loss in the Stanley Cup, the riots that followed, and the collapse of Roberto Luongo basically launched me into professional journalism as page views and comments crashed the site I was freelancing with at the time. I’m a big Ryan Kesler guy as a US hockey guy, so I enjoyed following his career before he left. I follow them closely, we’ve won good money on them, and they came through with an epic loss for me. I’m also a New Jersey Devils fan, and I’m thankful for  ...

NHL Picks: New Year’s Eve – Islanders, Caps, Ducks, Red Wings, Blackhawks

NHL Picks: New Year’s Eve Hockey Predictions

Islanders, Red Wings, Capitals, Blackhawks, Ducks Happy New Year to everyone. In what I hope will be a nice way to end the year, I am posting all five of our forum selections for today. I am on the New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and Anaheim Ducks.

I like the Islanders to take out the Buffalo Sabres because they have been handling business against weaker teams. Even on the road, I see a lot of value in this line. The Sabres lack depth and the Islanders have explosive  ...

2015-16 NHL Preseason Predictions – Metropolitan Preview: New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Preseason Predictions: New York Rangers Take 2015-16 Metropolitan Division

As a New Jersey Devils fan, it’s hard to admit that the New York Rangers are the best team in the Metropolitan Division. It’s even harder to pick them to win your division two years in a row in annual preseason NHL predictions. This year, the blow was softened by being right last year. Here’s to another incredibly profitable hockey season, starting with a preview of my favorite division where I begrudgingly pick a team with one Stanley Cup since 1940.

1. New York Rangers (108 pts): I know the  ...

NHL Playoffs Picks: New York Rangers at Washington Capitals, Game 3

NHL Playoffs Picks: Rangers Caps Game Three Did I mention how much I love this series? I think I did, but just in case – I LOVE THIS SERIES. Henrik Lundqvist’s career-long playoff futility, despite pretty strong numbers and a great roster around him, versus Alexander Ovechkin’s playoff futility, despite several impressive performances in huge games as he tries to carry a mediocre team to success. The immovable loser meets the unstoppable disappointment. I LOVE IT!

Beyond that, you have an incredible top-line pairing of the New York Rangers going against a top-heavy, two-player offense of the Washington Capitals. Holtby can be  ...

NHL Playoffs Predictions: Canadiens, Rangers, Wild, and Ducks

NHL Playoffs Predictions: Habs, Ducks, Rangers, Wild in Second Round Let’s take a look at our bracket. We got the entire Eastern Conference right, and we’ve made profit on the first round of the NHL Playoffs again. We got five of the eight and missed the Minnesota Wild taking out the Blues and the Calgary Flames taking out the Canucks. Honestly, if Shea Weber doesn’t go down I think the Nashville Predators had a great chance at knocking off the Chicago Blackhawks. All in all, not a bad round. Our Finals picks are still alive, and we were low confidence on a couple of those losses. We won money in the first round, and now, with a better grasp of the NHL playoffs field, we look to build on it. Here’s my picks for the NHL Playoffs second round where I’ve got the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks, and Minnesota Wild advancing.

NHL Playoffs Picks Contest ($100): Washington Capitals, New York Islanders

NHL Playoffs Picks Contest ($100): Washington Capitals at New York Islanders

– Game Three: Sunday, April 20th

I like when our NHL picks contest spills over into the playoffs because Game Three with a favorite going on the road for the first time is the definition of a toss up. I think the Caps are the better team and I’m posting this before we know exactly what kind of desperation will turn this into a contest toss up. Will the Islanders be desperate and fighting for their lives? Will they surprise and take control of the series, forcing the Washington Capitals to fight to regain home ice? The Caps are -140 to win the series, -145 at home to open the series, and the first road game of the series is a perfect chance to test what the Islanders are made of.

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes

NHL Picks: Washington Capitals at Carolina Hurricanes

The Washington Capitals are the much better team. The Caps have been on a nice stretch before two tough losses, and I think they’re ready to bounce back against one of their old division rivals.

The Canes have been sloppy this year and at the basement of a very top-heavy Metropolitan Division. The Caps are fighting for a playoff spot, and though they’re on the road, I expect them to play well against a familiar opponent.

The Caps will bounce back after playing good teams. Meanwhile the Canes are dumping talent and have  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Penguins Capitals

NHL Picks Contest: Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals

Z-Code Prediction

This is an interesting one for the latest round of our NHL Picks Contest. The computer has a five-star underdog pick for the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Washington Capitals. I have no such confidence, and there is some serious conflict in the algorithm. Either way this should be a fun one.

The Penguins have started to find their stride and are scoring again as their better players are finally starting to get healthy. The Washington Capitals are playing excellent hockey and are settling into a playoff position in the East. This could be a playoff preview.

I like this rivalry – even if I don’t buy into how much the NHL has hyped it up over the years. I’ll be avoiding this one because I agree that there is underdog value in the line but expect the Capitals to battle on home ice. Rather than place a wager, I suggest  ...
