Free NHL Picks Contest: New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Picks Contest: New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins

Thursday, March 3rd The New York Rangers have been all over the place this season. Sometimes they look dominant, other times they look awful. They have a strong goaltender but the defense in front of him has been porous. What’s more, the offense seems out of sorts from time to time. It’s hard to get a read on this team, especially on the road, and that’s what makes it so fun to feature them in our NHL Picks contest for their game with the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 3rd.

The Pittsburgh  ...

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes

NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Carolina Hurricanes The Eastern Conference Wild Card race is getting pretty intense. Following a win by my New Jersey Devils, there is a tie for the final Wild Card spot at 63 points, and the Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens would all be out at 58 points. Just a point ahead of the final Wild Card spot, the New York Islanders are third in the Metropolitan at 64 points. This NHL Playoffs race is going to be intense.

A win here for the Carolina Hurricanes would bring them closer to the New  ...

NHL Picks Contest: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Tampa Bay Lightning

NHL Picks: Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Lightning I don’t have any NHL system plays in my forum for today. Honestly, it’s Mardi Gras in New Orleans and the Super Bowl is on Sunday, so I would really need to be pushed to pick a team. As such, I do not have a bet for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Tampa.

I will say this, though – both teams are on fire. It’s hard to bite on a game where two elite teams are surging. That said, the Pittsburgh Penguins are banged up and will take  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100): Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Lightning

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Lightning The Pittsburgh Penguins have been a tricky team. Sidney Crosby appears to be back to his old scoring ways, but the Penguins have struggled this year and could end up missing the playoffs. They still have no defense, and their top scorers might be showing their age as they can no longer carry this Pittsburgh Penguins team through its own mediocrity and one-dimensional approach.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are like a new, younger version of the Pittsburgh Penguins with a better goalie. As a result, they’ve had more sustained success.  ...

NHL Picks: Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs

NHL Picks: Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs

Happy Halloween, Z-Coders. I love this one, but I have my hesitations about betting the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto, irrespective of how terrible Toronto is this year.

The Penguins are a little bit tired here and they’ve been inconsistent this season. On the road, they may come out a little slow with both factors coming together. Still, I don’t see how the Leafs can keep up with this kind of talent. I think the line is pretty reasonable, and even though we’re betting a favorite on the  ...

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Picks: Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going with a backup goalie tonight on home ice, but against one of the worst teams in hockey I like their chances. The -210 line is reasonable, and the Penguins are winning hockey games. Still, the Penguins should give you a slight pause because this is a back to back.

The offense is due to explode, the Buffalo Sabres don’t have enough depth to shut down Pittsburgh, and I think even if there is some element of fatigue the Penguins should have enough to handle the Sabres with relative  ...

2015-16 NHL Preseason Predictions – Metropolitan Preview: New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins

NHL Preseason Predictions: New York Rangers Take 2015-16 Metropolitan Division

As a New Jersey Devils fan, it’s hard to admit that the New York Rangers are the best team in the Metropolitan Division. It’s even harder to pick them to win your division two years in a row in annual preseason NHL predictions. This year, the blow was softened by being right last year. Here’s to another incredibly profitable hockey season, starting with a preview of my favorite division where I begrudgingly pick a team with one Stanley Cup since 1940.

1. New York Rangers (108 pts): I know the  ...

NHL Playoffs Bracket Picks: Ducks Habs Stanley Cup?

2015 NHL Playoffs: Bracket Predictions, Canadiens Ducks Stanley Cup?

In the past three years we’ve gotten a total of two series wrong in the first round. While our brackets have tended to fade as the NHL playoffs go on, first round matchups have been something of a specialty for me with Z-Code. That said, I look at this first round as a bunch of volatile, unpredictable matchups. We’ll do this bracket for fun because it’s become something of a tradition, but I won’t be betting every series line anymore — for the first time since college.

I look at this  ...

FREE NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Flames at Avalanche

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Calgary Flames at Colorado Avalanche

Saturday, March 14th

The Calgary Flames are in position to contend for a playoff spot this year. They’ve been better on the road this year and found a goalie who can win them hockey games. Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche have been incredibly disappointing after a wildly successful season last year. The Avalanche are playing better lately, though, and they look good at home. Who do you have winning this one in Colorado, straight up? Simply comment on this post pinned to the top of our Facebook page to participate!

We had an exciting contest round last week – most of our audience was divided on the game and it ended up being a 1-0 overtime thriller with the Pens triumphing over the Kings in LA. There’s a lot of clutter at the top, and it’s still anyone’s game. Remember – first to ten wins gets the $100 Prize and don’t  ...

Free NHL Picks Contest ($100): Pittsburgh Penguins at LA Kings

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Pittsburgh Penguins at LA Kings

Saturday, March 7th

The LA Kings seem to make it to the Stanley Cup Final every year, while the Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be preseason favorites each season. This is a battle of two of the premier teams in hockey. The Penguins will be a long way from home, but I think they’re the better team overall – especially in the regular season. Meanwhile, the LA Kings have been surging of late and on their own ice they certainly are difficult to beat.

Who do you think will win? As always, our NHL Picks Contest is free to participate. Simple comment on this post, pinned to the top of our Facebook page, to participate.

Here are our NHL Picks Contest standings after the Penguins defeated the Caps (A game we predicted the score exactly if you followed along on game day). Congrats to our new leader, Duane:
