NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Round Seven Standings Update

NHL Picks Contest Standings Update: Round Eight Postponed!!!

Sorry for the delay in this post. Hockey goes on a Christmas break from the 23rd to the 27th so there is no game to choose from on Tuesday. I don’t want to break up the routine we have going for the contest. Participation has been great and I want to stick to our Friday post for a Tuesday game system. You guys have been great – keep it up. I’m really enjoying this.

Here are out standings after round seven:

4 Wins:

Michal Janochowski

Jackson Fisher  ...

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils Vs Ottawa Senators

NHL Picks and Predictions: Ottawa Senators at New Jersey Devils

Ottawa played a great game on Monday and they have looked sharp in just about every other contest this month haha. Their scoring is inconsistent, and I don’t think they’re going to finish the year in the hunt. Right now, they’re battling for .500

The Devils are playing well. They played a tight game with the Penguins that they should have won if not for a horrific first period. They played a tight game with the Blue jackets that they should have won if not for a horrific third period.  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues

NHL Picks Contest Round Seven ($100 Prize): San Jose Sharks at St. Louis Blues

I’ve picked another dandy for our competition. I give myself full credit for why you guys can’t break through and put a winning streak together. This is another coin flip.

The line has the Blues as slight favorites, but they’re on a back to back and played a very sloppy game on Monday. The Sharks are on the road, where they’re not nearly the same team. They’re on quite a skid and this is a dangerous spot for their poor play to continue. Blues have a  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets

NHL Picks and Predictions: New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets (Competition Round Six)

Well, we can definitely pick ’em. It’s another coin flip game with coin flip odds for the sixth round of our competition. Two mediocre teams, which for me is more difficult to predict than two talented teams, do battle in Columbus. I’d say the Devils are the better team, but they’re on the road and I think that mitigates such an advantage. The Devils are coming off a big win, but the Blue Jackets have been more consistent lately. This should be a grind.

Both teams  ...

NHL Picks Contest Round Six: New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets

NHL Picks Contest Round Six ($100 Prize): New Jersey Devils at Columbus Blue Jackets 12/10

Two mediocre teams do battle in Columbus on Tuesday. Unimpressive as these two have been, I think it’s the most difficult game to predict in a full day of hockey.

The Devils are anchored in their excellent goaltending, but the offense has really struggled without Ilya Kovalchuk. They’re streaky, but right now they’re very cold.

Columbus nearly made the playoffs last season on the strength of their goaltending, but injuries have hurt them offensively. This should be a grind. I don’t see where the goals will come from.

Who ya got? Simply comment on our Facebook contest post with who you think will win. In round six, our leader still only has three wins.

NHL Picks: New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers, Hudson River Rivalry

NHL Picks and Predictions: New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers

This might be my favorite rivalry in hockey. Even though the Devils are exhausted and slumping, I expect a battle.

I don’t think the New York Rangers are that good. They’ve got one of the best defensive top pairings in hockey, and their goaltender, who just inked a massive contract, is definitely one of the best in hockey. Still, over the past few years, the Rangers haven’t had much success against the Devils. From “Henrique, it’s over!” to bad bounces off the stanchions of the Prudential Center, or even  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): LA Kings at Anaheim Ducks

NHL Picks Competition Round Five: LA Kings at Anaheim Ducks

The LA Kings are an excellent defensive team, but they’ve struggled offensively and remain maddeningly inconsistent. They can steal a win from anyone, but they can also lose to just about anyone as well. Without Quick, they’re a tough team to trust.

In our contest pick, the Kings play the second game in a back to back against a slumping Ducks team. Things simply haven’t clicked for Anaheim in the last few weeks, and most of it has been on the offensive end.

I expect a battle, which is why we’ve  ...

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Standings Update, Ducks at Stars Round Four

NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Fourth Round Standings Update

Happy Thanksgiving, hockey fans. In a tight fourth round of our NHL Picks $100 Contest, we saw our only undefeated member fall. The competition got a whole lot tighter, as most of our contestants are a game back, and the whole pool has a chance to win this thing.

The Anaheim Ducks had control and a 2-1 lead in the third period when the home team erupted to steal this one. Quick, consecutive goals gave the Stars the lead, and the Ducks never recovered. It was a wild one in Dallas. Here are our results:

3 Wins:

Elias Anderson

Michal Janochowski  ...

NHL Picks 11/23: New York Rangers at Nashville Predators

NHL Picks: New York Rangers at Nashville Predators

The Nashville Predators have turned things around, but I think the New York Rangers are the better team. The Preds are without their franchise goaltender, and it’s taken a while for them to adjust. That being said, they enter with a three-game winning streak.

The Rangers will likely start a backup goalie here, but I don’t think it will matter. The Rangers defensemen, especially their top pairing, are among the best in hockey. I don’t expect many scoring opportunities for the Preds, who lack offensive firepower.

New York is starting to come  ...

NHL Picks Contest: Standings Update, Round Three ($100 Prize)

NHL $100 Picks Contest ($50 for second place): Standings Update Through Three Rounds

Looks like I got you guys again. 64 comments, 10 correct guesses. The Avalanche came through on home ice as underdogs for the select few of us who went against the grain.

Only Elias Anderson remains perfect through three rounds, but five competitors are hot on his trail and like I say every week it’s still anybody’s game. These contests tend to go well beyond ten rounds. Here’s how it looks after three:

3 Wins: Elias Anderson

2 Wins:

Michal Janochowski  ...
