There is a lot going on today. For starters, we have round seven of our MLB Picks contest, which features the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox. Another exciting (read: scary) play here is the C bet we have on the Detroit Tigers. As good as they are and as streaky as the A’s are, I can’t see a sweep in Detroit… but it doesn’t look good after a six-inning game stole money from us in my mind. MLB Picks and Predictions, Friday 8/23: Washington Nationals at Kansas City Royals
This is a tricky game. I don’t think I’ve seen such a strong underdog prediction in some time, but beware the conflicting parameters of the algorithm here.
While Z-Code suggests that there is an 83% chance of a Nationals win, it also says there is only a 68% chance of the Nationals covering a +1.5 spread. There’s five star support, but obviously those numbers do not add up. The system is conflicted, and the read out is not nearly as strong as the first glance suggests.

Sometimes when your system doesn’t give out a strong signal, there’s nothing better than grabbing a bucket of popcorn and hoping the Astros implode.
Luckily, there’s a super computer that tells us not to do that. This is a fun bet if anything on the moneyline because there is quite simply no value in it.

MLB Picks and Predictions – Detroit Tigers Vs Kansas City Royals
Verlander has had a horrible season. He’s been hard to trust, his ERA is much higher than we expected when the season began, and the results aren’t there. He doesn’t warrant wagers at sharp lines.
That said, -160 isn’t that sharp.
The Tigers are the far better team. This is a bad opportunity for a progression because it lacks a statistical edge and the next pitching matchup is dangerous. Still, there’s an obvious pitching edge to the Tigers in this particular game, at home, and they’re clearly the better team. The line seems reasonable, and there’s value here.
I wouldn’t go all in here, but for a low-confidence wager, this isn’t bad.

MLB Picks and Predictions – Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers
I don’t usually feel comfortable betting against the BRewers at home, especially with Lohse on the mound. My system has no plays today. Still, if I had to pick one, I kind of like the Reds today for a fun bet.
Cincy is the far superior team. Cingriani is having a good year and the Reds are in a heated playoff race. They need to remain consistent, and this could be a good opportunity for a progression.
