NFL Picks: Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints
I grew up a Dallas Cowboys fan, but begrudgingly turned my back on the organization after DeMarcus Ware was cut. I got older and realized the shame associated with being a Cowboys fan was well-deserved. Fittingly, the Cowboys won the NFC East out of nowhere and made a deep run in the playoffs.
That same year, I moved to New Orleans. Being a New Orleans Saints fan in New Orleans means being a part of a drunken, free, awesome culture in a drunken, free, awesome city. Saints games are half party, half sports event. Unfortunately, the team imploded and salary cap problems decimated an otherwise exciting roster.
I guess what I’m saying is it’s probably best that I just don’t have any loyalties if I pick football winners professionally. For the record, I guess I root for the Giants now – my former local team.
I love Tony Romo. Say what you will about some bad luck losses that have defined his career, but the guy has every major Cowboys passing record and has statistics to prove he’s transformed into one of the most clutch quarterbacks in football. Brandon Weeden is not Tony Romo. I hate Brandon Weeden, he is a terrible quarterback, and the Dallas Cowboys will not be anywhere near as dominant as they were until Romo is back under center.
I love Drew Brees. That said, the guy has a bruised rotator cuff and isn’t making the throws when he’s healthy. He’s without his biggest weapon after Jimmy Graham was dealt to the Seahawks this offseason, and the offense is wholly out of sorts.
But that’s not why I’m picking against the desperate and unpredictable New Orleans Saints.
There is no way the New Orleans Saints stop the run. Put nine guys in the box and this Saints defense still might not be able to stop the Dallas Cowboys. Even with Weeden under center, even with the New Orleans Saints filling the Dome with a bunch of crazy fans – there’s value on this one.
