Rangers, Giants: Zcode’s MLB Picks for Thursday, July 28

Kansas City Royals at Texas Rangers

The Rangers’ play has been subpar recently. They’ve lost their last 6 of 7 series and have been coasting on the early lead they built. The Royals, however, are the only team the Rangers have been able to beat in the last two months. KC has been playing especially bad recently too and are, by a long shot, the weaker team in this series. Furthermore, the Rangers are starting their ace, Cole Hamels, who’s currently 11-2 with an ERA of 2.87. Facing Yordano Ventura who’s 6-8 with an ERA of 4.99 gives the huge pitching edge to Texas. When considering the pitching edge, home field advantage, and Texas’s overall edge all over the field and behind the plate, the -154 line is juicy.

Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants

The Giants have been running cold losing two series in a row on the road to teams less capable than the Nationals. However, the Nats are running equally cold, losing their last three series. With both teams underperforming, the -141 line is great value for Johnny Cueto. Cueto is an absolute ace who’s 5-1 with a 2.43 ERA at home. Taking him at -141 is a no brainer. We see this series as the ideal opportunity for the Giants to bounce back and they’ve stacked the deck in their favor in game 1.
