Premier League matchday 35 picks for May 9: Manchester United and Aston Villa to meet at Villa Park

Premier League matchday 35 will put up some intriguing matches with just four gamedays left to play this term.

The Premier League title could be decided this weekend with Manchester City playing at home against Chelsea. A win for Manchester City and they would reclaim the Premier League title A loss or draw and the title race would still be open as long as Manchester United defeat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Aston Villa vs. Manchester United

Aston Villa host Manchester United on Sunday in the match of the day. The Villains are on a two-match unbeaten run and go into the game having rediscovered their form. On the other hand, Manchester United are second in the league and unbeaten in their last six Premier League fixtures.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are coming off of a Thursday night 3-2 loss in the Europa League semifinal second leg against Roma. Despite the loss, Manchester United qualified for the final later this month against Villarreal.

With the league title race most likely over by the time Aston Villa and Manchester United kick off on Sunday, the team could experience a dip in play. Solskjaer could also rotate the team.

Since 2019 when Aston Villa returned to the Premier League, Manchester United are unbeaten in three matches against them. A draw and two Manchester United wins were the results of those three fixtures. Although Aston Villa have improved recently, I cannot see them winning. A draw or loss to Manchester United is the likely result.

Injuries: Aston Villa — Morgan Sansone, Jack Grealish, Trezeguet; Manchester United — Antony Martial, Daniel James

Result: Manchester United win or draw

West Ham vs. Everton

It is a top-eight clash between West Ham and Everton at the London Stadium. The Hammers are fifth in the Premier League and three points back of Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification for next term.

If the Hammers can win at home on Premier League matchday 35 and Chelsea lose to Manchester City, the West Ham will pull level on points. Easier said than done.

Everton are incredibly inconsistent. After going four matches without a defeat, they lost on matchday 34 to Aston Villa, 2-1. The Toffees have everything to play for in their final four games. They are two points off of seventh-place Liverpool, who occupy the Europa Conference League qualification place. Carlo Ancelotti’s team are just four points back of sixth-place Tottenham Hotspur and the final Europa League qualification place.

West Ham won the reverse fixture away to Everton in January. Tomas Soucek’s 86th-minute goal was enough for West Ham to win. The Hammers should be too much for Everton once more this weekend. Since arriving from Manchester United in January, West Ham forward Jesse Lingard has been one of the league’s best players. He has nine goals and four assists in 12 matches. He averages a goal every 118 minutes.

The Hammers are getting players fit at the right time. They may not qualify for the Champions League but will keep hopes alive with a win this weekend against Everton.

Injuries: West Ham — No new injuries; Everton — James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Result: West Ham to win
