NHL Picks: Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers

First, let me draw your attention to our NHL Picks contest. Pinned to the top of our Facebook page, a $100 contest game is posted. Simply comment along to participate. It’s always a lot of fun, but it’s more fun when more people join in the action.

Now, let me draw your attention to my only play tonight. My system won on the Canucks last night, and now we roll into tonight’s game with a little money to play with for the week. I like the Pittsburgh Penguins, even on the road, in this battle of backup goaltenders. Ray Emery has been awful, and Thomas Greiss really hasn’t been that bad. Couple that with how strong the Penguins offense can be and how sloppy the Flyers defense has been for years now and I think you have a recipe for a Penguins win.

I got in at the opening line of -150, but it has moved sharply since the announcing of the goaltending matchup and throughout the day’s action. I don’t see nearly as much value at -175, but I still like this play at -150. Pittsburgh is going to score some goals tonight in Philly.

That’s why I also tend to agree with the computer prediction of the over here. They like over 5.5 with top offenses against backup goalies. Hard to argue with that assessment as these rivalries tend to be pretty crazy.
