NHL Picks November 14: Oilers Battle Blues in Featured Game

As we head into the middle of November, the NHL season battles are in full swing. There are six games set for November 14 with the Blues hosting the Oilers the headline game.

Edmonton Oilers versus St. Louis Blues

Both teams enter the contest “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Oilers have a +31 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. St. Louis is the favorite with odds of 1.732 to 2.282. The Score Predictor has the Blues winning by a 4-2 score with 49 percent confidence, while the Totals Predictor shows teams trending in games on opposite sides of the line. Note that the Oilers have been much more stable, coming in at +5 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Blues to win, but avoid betting the “over/under”.

Calgary Flames versus Ottawa Senators

Neither team is playing stellar hockey at the moment. The Flames are “average down” the Senators “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Calgary has a +28 to +2 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Score Predictor has the Flames winning by a 4-3 score with 52 percent confidence, while the Totals Predictor is showing the teams are both trending in games “over” the line. Calgary is a 1.648 to 2.498 favorite. I like Calgary in a road win, betting over the line.

Montreal Canadiens versus Boston Bruins

The Canadiens enter play heading nowhere at 0 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Boston is at +9 and “average”, respectively. The Score Predictor sees the Bruins in a 5-1 blowout with 83 percent confidence. This is in line with Boston’s odds of 1.468 to 2.995. The Bruins are also performing very consistently with their favorite/underdog status. I like the  Bruins by at least two goals, but avoid the over/under.

New Jersey Devils versus New York Rangers

In another matchup in this rivalry, the Devils come in “burning hot” and the Rangers are “average”. New York has a +20 to +13 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The odds are greatly in the Rangers’ favor at 1.588 to 2.595 and the Score Predictor has the Rangers winning by a 4-1 margin with 59 percent confidence. Betting “under” is a smart play since the Totals Predictor is showing both teams trending in games “under” the line. I like the Rangers at home in a low-scoring game.

Pittsburgh Penguins versus Washington Capitals

Both teams look to pick up the pace. The Penguins are “dead” and the Capitals are “ice cold up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Washington has a +18 to +5 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The odds are in Washington’s favor, 1.588 to 2.575. The Score Predictor has the Penguins in 5-2 upset, but with a small level of confidence of 25 percent. Note that Washington has been the much more stable team at +3 to -1 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Capitals at home but avoid the over/under bet.

Vancouver Canucks versus Anaheim Ducks

Anaheim looks to continue their hot play. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +26 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Canucks are “ice cold down” and +10. The Ducks are a 1.76 to 2.235 favorite with a Score Prediction of 5-2 with 65 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor is showing the teams are trending in games on opposite sides of the line.  Be aware that Vancouver is -4 on the Team Volatility Oscillator, so they have been very unstable. I like the Ducks at home by a few goals.
