NHL Picks: New York Islanders at Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers are on a long losing streak. They are playing their third game in four nights and have been absolutely terrible. This is a young team that has given up on their season and now the Oilers host one of the best teams in hockey, the New York Islanders.
The issue here is obviously travel. The New York Islanders are on a lengthy road trip and all the way out west. This is certainly a dangerous game, and the Islanders could suffer from their schedule of late. Still, if they keep their legs under them and don’t allow the Edmonton Oilers to get any momentum, they have a big edge.
The New York Islanders are one of the best teams in the East this year and are playing good hockey. They have an extra day of rest to sort out the fatigue of headed the the western Canada abyss, and they have the advantage of simply being better than the Edmonton Oilers. For me, with Edmonton a little bit tired and on a huge losing streak, I see value in the Islanders.

Obviously, it is tough to win out west, which is the reason for the conflicting parameters, but the Islanders are the better team with every advantage playing in their favor other than the location of the game.
