NHL Picks March 13: Beasts in the Western Conference Battle

The NHL regular season is nearly 75 percent complete with teams battling for playoff positioning. The are several key games to face off on March 13 with the Flames and Avalanche headlining the action.

Florida Panthers versus Los Angeles Kings

The Panthers enter 2nd in the Eastern Conference and the Kings are 4th in the Western Conference. Both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and the Panthers have a +30 to +22 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have combined to go “over” the line in 10 of the last 12 games. The Score Predictor has the Kings by a 3-2 score with 68 percent confidence. The Team Volatility Oscillator shows both teams are stable, at +20 and +10. I like the Kings by a goal, perhaps in overtime.

Vegas Golden Knights versus Columbus Blue Jackets

Vegas enters 7th in the Western Conference and Columbus is 9th in the Eastern Conference. Vegas has a +19 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Neither team has been playing well lately, at “average down” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Score Predictor has Vegas by a 3-2 score with 69 percent confidence. Both teams have been consistently performing with respect to their favorite/underdog status. I like Columbus at home by a goal but avoid the over/under bet.

Carolina Hurricanes versus Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh is 6th in the Eastern Conference and hosts the number one seeded Hurricanes. Carolina is “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +30 versus +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Score Predictor likes Pittsburgh by a 4-3 score with 77 percent confidence. Note that both teams are showing good stability on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like Pittsburgh to do enough to squeak out a win, maybe needing overtime to do so.

Calgary Flames versus Colorado Avalanche

Calgary enters 2nd in the Western Conference and Colorado is 1st in the conference. The Avalanche has a +27 to +26 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Flames are “average” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been trending in games “over” the line and the Score Predictor has the Flames by a 3-2 margin with 37 percent confidence. Note that the Avalanche has been extremely stable at +24 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like Colorado at home in a game going “over” the line.
