NHL Picks: Friday, December 1

Pittsburgh Penguins versus Buffalo Sabres

The Penguins won the first meeting between the teams as a home favorite on November 14. Pittsburgh has an “average” status versus “dead up” for Buffalo on the Team Strength Oscillator. Pittsburgh also holds a very decided advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, +19 to 0.  Tied for first in Team Volatility, the Penguins are a road favorite and should win this game without too much difficulty.

Carolina Hurricanes versus New York Rangers

Both teams are hovering near the bottom of the Metropolitan division with Carolina winning the last meeting between the teams as road underdog. The Rangers have a clear advantage on the Power Ranking indicator +19 to +9. The teams are nearly even on the Team Strength Oscillator. Home ice may be the key here, as the Rangers have already won 10 at home. I see them picking up their 11th in a close battle decided late.

Anaheim Ducks versus Columbus Blue Jackets

Anaheim is near the bottom in the Pacific division, while the Blue Jackets are pushing New Jersey for top spot in the Metropolitan division. Columbus won both meetings last season as underdogs. They appear to have the edge across the board, +30 to +7 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” to “average down” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. Tied for fifth in Team Volatility bodes well for the Blue Jackets as a home favorite. Columbus should control this game early and cruise to a win.

Los Angeles Kings versus St. Louis Blues

The Blues are on top in the Central, while the Kings are battling Vegas for top honors in the Pacific. The Blues hold a 1-0 advantage between the teams this season, winning as a home favorite on October 30. The Blues double the Kings on the Power Ranking Indicator, +24 to +12 and +8.87 to +0.67 on the Team Strength Oscillator. Although the Kings have been good on the road, the Blues have been excellent at home. That trend for the Blues will continue on Friday.

Vegas Golden Knights versus Winnipeg Jets

Both teams are playing well, battling near the top in their respective divisions. The Golden Knights took down the Jets as a home underdog on November 10.Vegas holds slight edges in the oscillators, at +13.31 to +11.71 on the Team Strength Oscillator and +27 to +22 on the Power Ranking Indicator. This game could be in the “toss up” category, perhaps ending in an overtime decision. Will go with the Jets, merely because they are playing at home.

New Jersey Devils versus Colorado Avalanche

This match up features two teams heading in opposite directions as the first place Devils take on the last place Avalanche. New Jersey won as home favorites on October 7. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Furthermore, the Devils are +29 on the Power Ranking Indicator,  while Colorado is +10 and declining. Colorado is excellent at home, giving them a fighting chance. However New Jersey has the best road record in the NHL and will win this game.
