NHL Picks February 27: Edmonton Versus Carolina Headline Action

As we reach the final weekend in February, the NHL races are heating up for the home stretch before the playoffs. There are several games set to face off on February 27 with the Oilers versus Hurricanes highlighting the play.

Edmonton Oilers versus Carolina Hurricanes

The Oilers enter play 8th in the Western Conference and the Hurricanes are 2nd in the Eastern Conference. Carolina has a +29 to +17 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been trending in games “over” the line, and the Score Predictor has Carolina by a 4-3 margin with 35 percent confidence. Both teams are showing stability, coming in at +9 and +11 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Hurricanes by two goals in a game “over” the line.

Buffalo Sabres versus Dallas Stars

The Sabres have struggled to the 3rd worst record in the Eastern Conference and the Stars are 10th in the Western Conference. Dallas has a +11 to +3 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the line, therefore it’s best to avoid the over/under bet. The Score Predictor has Dallas by a 4-1 margin with 40 percent confidence. Note that both teams are consistently performing according to their favorite/underdog status. I like the Stars by a couple of goals.

Pittsburgh Penguins versus Columbus Blue Jackets

The Penguins are 4th in the Eastern Conference, while the Blue Jackets are fighting for a playoff spot, sitting 9th in the conference. Pittsburgh has a +26 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, but Columbus is “burning hot” status versus “average”. Columbus has been involved in games “over” the line in five of their last six and the Score Predictor of 4-3 in favor of Pittsburgh with 56 percent confidence. The Team Volatility Oscillator is indicating that both teams have been very stable. Look for the Penguins to take this one in a high-scoring game, “over” the line, perhaps in overtime.

St. Louis Blues versus Chicago Blackhawks

Two long-time rivals face off. The teams are heading in opposite directions with the Blues 3rd in the Western Conference and the Blackhawks 3rd from the bottom. St. Louis is “burning hot” and +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator, while Chicago is +8 and “ice cold down”. The Score Predictor likes Chicago by a 4-3 margin with 63 percent confidence.  St. Louis has been trending in games “over” the line, so I lean that way with the bet. Chicago has been a bit more stable, at +15 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Going with a hunch and picking Chicago to get back on track with a home win.
