NHL Picks February 13: Kings Hosting Sabres Featured Game

The NHL season is past the halfway point and teams are looking to make a big push toward the playoffs. There are several games set to face off on February 13 with Florida at Minnesota as the featured game.

Florida Panthers versus Minnesota Wild

Both teams come into play 4th in their respective divisions. The Panthers have won three straight and are “burning hot”, while the Wild have lost three straight and are “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams have been trending in games “over” the line, and the Score Predictor has Minnesota by a 4-3 score with 61 percent confidence. Florida has a +16 to +12 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator, while both teams have been very consistent with regard to their favorite/underdog status. I like Florida on the road in a high-scoring, overtime game.

Detroit Red Wings versus Vancouver Canucks

Both clubs are entering the contest in 6th in their respective divisions. In this very evenly matched game, both teams have won three of their last six and are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Detroit has a +9 to +3 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Red Wings have been trending in games “under” the line, while the Canucks are trending in games “over” the line. The Score Predictor has Vancouver by a 4-3 score with 64 percent confidence. I like the home team in this one, in a game “over” the line.

Buffalo Sabres versus Los Angeles Kings

The Kings enter 4th in the Pacific Division and the Sabres are 5th in the Atlantic Division. Both teams have lost their last two and the Sabres are “average” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Los Angeles has a +26 to +12 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The Kings have been involved in games “over” the line in five or their last six and the Score Predictor likes them by a 3-2 score with 72 percent confidence. Go with the Kings at home by two goals in a game “over” the line.

Calgary Flames versus Ottawa Senators

Calgary is in the middle of the pack in the Pacific Division, while the Senators are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Ottawa has won four straight and are “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The teams have been trending on opposite sides of the “over/under” line and the Score Predictor likes Ottawa by a 3-2 score with 56 percent confidence. Both teams are +13 on the Power Ranks Indicator, but Ottawa is much more stable at +17 to +2 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I’m going with the hot hand and taking the Senators at home but pass on the over/under.
