NHL Picks Contest: Florida Panthers at Buffalo Sabres
It’s another round of the competition, and it’s another ugly selection. The Florida Panthers are fresh off a very impressive win against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they’re tired from a back to back and on the road in Buffalo. The Sabres are floundering this season, but they’re a physical team with excellent goaltending. Vegas and I agree that this is a coin flip.
I lean to the Sabres here, personally, but the computer disagrees. As such, this game does not fit any systems in the Z-Code VIP Club. That, of course, is what makes it such a fantastic pick for our picks competition. We aren’t just giving away this $100 prize – it must be earned!
The computer sees five-star underdog value on the road team here. It makes sense, of course, because the Panthers just took out the best team in the conference. They now have to play one of the worst teams in hockey. Surely they have an edge…
On the other hand, my thinking is that the Buffalo Sabres will give them a good game. The Panthers have tired legs, and if the Sabres can be said to have any strengths at all, it’s in their physicality and goaltending. They can beat down a tired Panthers team in Buffalo, and they can control the game. Will they score? I don’t know. But I think they’ll dominate the game and that’s enough to earn my support here. I won’t bet it with money… but if I had to pick in the contest that is how I’d lean to Buffalo.
