NHL Picks Contest ($100 Prize): Colorado Avalanche at New Jersey Devils

My biggest preseason wager this season was for the New Jersey Devils to finish with more than 71.5 points. So far, so good, as my Devils have found a way to win games despite having almost no offense whatsoever. Role players are stepping up, a good young defensive corps looks strong, and the goaltending has been reliable.
I also thought the Colorado Avalanche would have a tough time competing in the West. I didn’t think that they would be this awful, though. I merely thought that every team out west was a little stronger. The speed of this offense that once caused problems for teams seems to be missing as sluggish efforts from a young team lacking depth have left weak goaltenders out to dry.
So, the New Jersey Devils, a team many expected to stumble and is still, by most accounts, somewhat unreliable… or the Colorado Avalanche, a team many expected to compete but is, by all accounts, underachieving?
