The NHL season has resumed and there are several key games that will determine final playoff seeding. There are six match ups on tap for August 3 with the Stars and Golden Knights the featured game.
Dallas Stars versus Vegas Golden Knights
Dallas comes in with a 37-28-8 record facing off against Vegas entering with a 39-32-8 mark. Vegas is a home favorite and the teams have split the first two meeting between them this season. Vegas has a +28 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Golden Knights have more consistently performed according to their favorite/underdog status as indicated by their +11 to +2 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Expect a low scoring game according to the Totals Predictor, so betting the “under” is a safe play. Look for Vegas to come out on top by two goals.
New York Rangers versus Carolina Hurricanes
The Rangers come in having won all four games between the teams this season, however are a road underdog. Carolina has a 38-39-5 record, while the Rangers are 37-33-5. The Hurricanes hold a +23 to +12 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average down” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Neither team has been particular stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator, so take their favorite/underdog status lightly. The teams have been trending on opposite sides of the over/under line, so avoid that bet. Carolina should come away with a win being the home favorite.
Winnipeg Jets versus Calgary Flames
The teams come in with nearly identical records at 37-34-6 for Winnipeg and 36-34-7 for Calgary. The Jets are “burning hot” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and hold a +24 to +13 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Despite the trends and holding a 2-1 season series edge, the Flames enter as a home favorite. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the line, so betting the over/under is not the most wise play. The Flames have been more consistently performing in accordance to their favorite/underdog status. Look for them to take care of home ice and come away with the win.
Washington Capitals versus Tampa Bay Lightning
Both of these teams enter with very good records. The Capitals are 41-28-8, while the Lightning is 43-27-6. Despite winning all three games between the teams this season, the Capitals are a road underdog in this one. Tampa Bay has a +25 to +20 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and both teams have “average” status. Washington has been much more inconsistent according to the Team Volatility Oscillator,. Expect a high scoring contest, so I suggest betting the “over”. Look for the Lightning to handle business by a goal, perhaps in overtime.
Montreal Canadiens versus Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins have won two of three against the Canadiens this season and enter as a home favorite. Montreal is 31-40-9 on the season, +3 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “ice cold down” status. This compares to 40-29-6 for the Penguins, +19 and “average down”. The teams can put the puck in the net at a high rate, so look to bet the “over” in a thrilling contest. Take note that Montreal is very inconsistent, as their -3 on the Team Volatility Oscillator indicates. Pittsburgh should come away win a relatively easy win.
Chicago Blackhawks versus Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton comes in to play at 37-34-9, while Chicago is at 32-38-8. The Oilers have a +20 to +10 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Despite the worse record, the Blackhawks have won two of three games between the teams this season and are trending better at “burning hot” versus “average”. Edmonton is the home favorite, but are -4 on the Team Volatility Oscillator, making their favorite/underdog status not worth as much. The teams are trending on opposite sides of the “over/under” line, so best to avoid that bet. Look for Chicago to continue it’s upward path and season dominance over the Oilers.
