NHL Picks April 4: Los Angeles Hosts Edmonton in Featured Game

The NHL season has reached the home stretch and each game becomes more important as playoff positions still remain. There is a full slate of games for April 4 with the Kings hosting the Oilers facing off in the featured game.

Edmonton Oilers versus Los Angeles Kings

Edmonton comes into the game “burning hot” and are 5-1 over their last six games. Los Angeles is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator after losing their last two and are 3-3 over their last six. The teams have been involved in games “over” the line in five of their last eight combined, and the Score Predictor likes Los Angeles by a 3-2 score with 74 percent confidence. Los Angeles has a +26 to +21 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator and has won two of three between the teams this season. I like Los Angeles in a game “over” the line.

Ottawa Senators versus Carolina Hurricanes

Ottawa is 4-2 over their last six and is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +8 on the Power Ranks Indicator. Carolina is “average down” after losing three straight, but still is +29 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been trending in games “over” the line, and the Score Predictor likes Carolina by a 4-3 score with 47 percent confidence in the prediction. Both teams have been very stable with regard to their favorite/underdog status. Carolina won the first meeting between the teams this season and I expect a similar outcome this time in a game “over” the line.

Pittsburgh Penguins versus New Jersey Devils

Both teams enter play 3-3 over their last six games and “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Devils have a +20 to +13 edge on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams have been equal in games “over” and “under” the line in their last ten games combined. The Score Predictor likes New Jersey by a 3-2 score with 51 percent confidence. Pittsburgh has been much more stable, at +14 to +4 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. New Jersey has won all three games between the teams this season. Make that four after this one in a game “under” the line.

Vegas Golden Knights versus Nashville Predators

Both teams come into the contest “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and Vegas has a +30 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranks Indicator.  The teams have been trending in games on opposite sides of the line, and the Score Predictor likes Vegas by a 4-3 score but with only 32 percent confidence. Both teams have been moderately stable and have been fairly consistent with regard to their favorite/underdog status. Vegas won both games between the teams this season and should take care of business again in this one, but pass on the “over/under” bet.
