NHL Picks April 28: Two First Round Playoff Games Featured

The NHL Playoffs are in full swing, and teams are battling to make it to the second round. The Eastern Conference matchup for April 28 is the Tampa Bay Lightning versus the Florida Panthers. In the Western Conference showdown, the Dallas Stars host the Colorado Avalanche.

Tampa Bay Lightning versus Florida Panthers

In this Eastern Conference battle, the Panthers host the Lightning in game four of the first-round series. Florida was 47-31-4 during the regular season and 27-12-2 at home, while Tampa Bay was 47-27-8 and 18-19-4 on the road.  Florida is “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +25 to +19 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The first two games of the series featured one game “over” and one game “under” the line, and the score prediction for this game is 3-2 in favor of Florida but with only 40 percent confidence. Tampa Bay had  +75 to +39 scoring differential edge during the regular season. The teams split the games during the regular season but the Panthers have outscored the Lightning by an 8-2 margin in Tampa Bay over the first two games of the series. I like the Panthers to continue their dominance, winning by two goals in a game “over” the line.

Colorado Avalanche versus Dallas Stars

The fifth game of this first-round Western Conference playoff game takes place in Dallas. The Stars had a regular season record of 50-26-6 including 28-10-3 at home, while the Avalanche posted a record of 49-29-4 and 23-17-1 on the road. Dallas is “average up” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +29 to +20 on the Power Ranks Indicator. The teams are trending in games “over” the line, even though the last game was “under” the line with only three goals scored. Dallas had a scoring differential edge of +53 to +43 during the regular season. Colorado won the first game in the series by four goals, with Dallas winning each of the last two games in overtime. Dallas has more consistently performed regarding their favorite/underdog status, but have been very unable since the beginning of April. I like Colorado in a road upset but pass on the “over/under” bet.
