NHL Picks April 24: Lightning and Panthers Battle in Eastern Conference Showdown

The NHL regular season has reached the final games with a full schedule for April 24. Playoff positions are generally locked, so teams are looking to play their best hockey heading into the postseason. Tampa Bay and Florida is the headlined game.

Tampa Bay Lightning versus Florida Panthers

Two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference face-off. Florida is “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +31 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Tampa Bay is “average down” and +22 respectively. The teams have been involved in games half “over” the line and half “under” the line in their last 12 games. The Score Predictor likes Florida by a 5-1 score with 75 percent confidence. Both teams have been very stable, at +29 and +21 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like the Panthers by two goals but avoid the “over/under” bet.

Boston Bruins versus Montreal Canadiens

The two teams have been heading in opposite directions all season. Boston is “burning hot” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +19 to +2 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The teams have been involved in games “over” the line in a combined six of their last 12 games. Note that the Score Predictor likes Boston on the road by a 4-3 score with 49 percent confidence. The Team Volatility Oscillator shows both teams are very stable. Boston is too strong and will win by two goals in a game “over” the line.

Carolina Hurricanes versus New York Islanders

Carolina enters the contest “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +24 on the Power Ranking Indicator. New York enters at “ice cold down” and +13 respectively. The Score Predictor favors the Islanders to win at home by a 4-3 margin with 77 percent confidence. Note that the teams have both been in games “over” the line in four of their last six. Both teams have been moderately stable. I like New York at home, perhaps winning in overtime in a game “over” the line.

St. Louis Blues versus Anaheim Ducks

The Blues enter play “burning hot” and +30 on the Power Ranking Indicator. While they are rolling along, the Ducks are “ice cold down” and +9 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Expect a high-scoring game since the teams have been involved in games “over” the line in nine of their last 12 games. The Score Predictor likes St. Louis by a 4-3 score with 66 percent confidence. Note that Anaheim has been much more stable at +28 to +9 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. I like St. Louis by a couple of goals and bet “over” the line.
